After Garrick McGee turned down his alma mater Oklahoma and now Grantham spurning the NFL a year after leaving SEC powerhouse Georgia. That's huge and sends a strong message to recruits that Louisville is a serious player with a stable and talented coaching staff.

And how much does living in Louisville matter? Seems like Grantham and his family love it here just like BP's family and lots of others who have come to our city to work or play ball. We should be proud of that. Here's a statement from Grantham yesterday,

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to have interviewed for the defensive
coordinator position with the Oakland Raiders, but I'm committed to the
University of Louisville. I said when I came to Louisville that I
thought we could win a national championship, and we are building toward
that goal with the success we had this season. Coach Petrino and Tom
Jurich have given me a great opportunity and I'm grateful for their
commitment. My family loves it in Louisville, and I think we are
establishing something special here with head coach Bobby Petrino and
our staff. Our main objective over the next week is to finish strong in
recruiting and continue to bolster this signing class."

Gotta love it. Go Cards

John L will second that !!!

Multiple takes from this. One, this is only their first season here and already they are getting supposedly better job offers. It is good they turned them down. Two, Grantham staying sends a loud and clear message to me that our defense next year is shaping up to be killer. The main problem with defense this year was they were on the field too much since offense struggled. Three, Grantham has a lot of under the radar talent coming in with his transfers from UGA. These guys will make an instant impact and help to keep building us into a defensive juggernaut where the recruits will want to go. Four, stability. We all know the importance of stability. And our HC has been around the block and should recognize this as well. The grass isn't greener. We have a fantastic coaching staff and quite frankly, I would be worried if Oklahoma or the Raiders didn't come knocking.

The biggest thing is staff stability. The ability to keep the same system in place is extremely important when you are dealing with a pretty complex defensive system.

Who knows on how good the defense will be next year. The back end is a huge question mark at 2 spots. Replacing a guy like Mauldin is almost impossible, his impact goes much deeper than just on the field stuff.

I can't think of a much tougher opponent to start the season so having him back helps big time.

100% Agree. Grantham staying gives the staff stability and it's huge. Opening the season against a quality opponent in a fertile recruiting area is also huge. A win would set the table for a very promising season.

He's all in and it's cool.

Forgot to mention that I love the fire he brings to the sidelines.
