Lost out on Johnson to Miami
Lost out on Chartouny to Marquette
And only two more left they are targeting don't know what to say of this. It's very interesting too say the least!

I know the situation we've got is complex, but normally a new coach has an immediate impact. The Mack Effect has been absent so far.

Similar to Tom Crean at Indiana. Had to bring in walk ons in year one and year 2 had a top 10 class. At least you guys have "some" talent.

Bringing Mack in when they did provided the bonus of keeping most of our current players including all of the underclassmen.

Imagine if most of the current team had left in addition to the slim pickings now for adding late players.

I'm going to wait and see about the returning guys once the semester ends.

You assume they would have left. I think most would have stayed under Padgett. Maybe not Nwora or King but neither has proved to be indispensable in my opinion.

Normally a new coach doesn't have to deal with the fallout from the FBI and ugly, nasty, skanky, stank trick-ass ho's.

Both Simons and Ramey were committed knowing full well about the stripper scandal. It wasn’t until the FBI situation that they decommited.
Those that were saying we were in great position to land the grad transfers( although I haven’t been that impressed with the ones who have gone elsewhere) have been woefully wrong. I as well as others, are beginning to worry, and rightfully so.

We'll never know for sure. But my opinion was more towards if they hired a different coach than Mack. If David had been retained, you could very well be right about most of the current roster staying.

No one is leaving. In fact, the videos LouisvilleMBB has been posting on twitter shows them all working hard! Getting hit on the way up in layups, defending drills, etc. Lance Thomas, dude is going to be awesome if he works like he did in that video all summer.

It just leaves more PT for any possible incoming recruit.

YES, this! In year 1, the most important recruiting job is recruiting the current players. He did this successfully at a 100% rate, everyone who isn't graduating or going pro came back, including the freshmen. If Mack wasn't so successful at this, he would be holding tryouts this year for walk-ons just so we can have a team to go play. This is not a small deal.

A lot has happened since we all became aware of the stripper scandal and the effect is cumulative. If "just" the nasty, ugly, stanky, skank trick-ass ho's, the regime survives from Jurich on down and last year's team probably makes a nice run in the tournament and we're talking FF/title for 2018-19. FBI happened, and it all came down.

I am very impressed with how Mack kept 100% the remaining players here. As for new recruits, I don't think fans are being realistic about how easy it is to recruit against Louisville right now and for the next few years. Mack needs to build a wall around the city and keep all the homegrown talent here, kids already predisposed to playing for Louisville. Until the FBI stuff passes, recruiting is going to be climbing Mt. Everest.

Like the son Richard Pitino said, "people don't care" if the reality is Bowen is one player who never stepped on the court. "People don't care" if the reality is none of the banner teams roster were "recruited" by the ugly nasty stanky skank trick-ass ho's. The perception, reality or not, is that Louisville has been throwing ho's and money at recruits for years and the program is going to get hammered because of it - and opposing coaches are going to use that.

Not 100%. Otherwise Spalding and Adel would be returning...

use common sense. those guys went pro, they aren't transferring. you knew what I meant.
Sure I knew what you meant but we will never know if we had brought in a different coach if they would have convinced them to even just test the NBA waters with the possibility of coming back.

Has nothing to do with common sense..

It is going to be tough for a few years. Coach Mack may be holding tryouts for walk-ons in 2020.
If the guy's waiting to draw his full salary, I'm going to be more patient. If not...

Mack went on the clock when he stepped foot on campus. And we all heard great things about the results to expect. He got a blank page with me, and it's on him to fill it up...

Hard to evaluate him at this point. Who knows if any of the guys they were looking at were really interested or even had ties with Mack or his staff. These grad transfer have idea where they want to go before making the call to leave.

Next years recruiting and obviously how they play will answer some questions.

See my post #16 above. We're all going to have to accept that recruiting is nearly impossible for now. You're paying Coach Mack what you're paying him to get a (we hope) great coach in here to stick through things like this:

"You're a graduate transfer and you say you want to play in the NCAAT. Look at what Louisville did to Damian Lee and Trey Lewis in a year they could have added another Final Four to their history. A lot has happened since then, who knows what will happen, it is only going to get worse. So why deal with those unknowns? Come play for us instead."

Fans are really not being realistic. It would not matter who our coach is at this point in history. The next few years are going to be ROUGH.

The Mack Effect- when absolutely nothing happens.

I kid, of course. Kind of. I'm cheering for him.

And i will counteract any negative towards Louisville with Damian came to Louisville to improve his resume and guess what he was a starter with NBA Hawks at the end of the season. So their fore his dream to play in the NBA was a reality.

We dont know what kind of penalties [if any] we are going to get from the Adidas thing. And I bet every school out there is telling recruits we could get post season bans or death penalty. Hard to recruit against that.

Thank you. Perception is reality in this situation and the perception is far from good. This is why Mack gets $4MM/year for 7 years, to weather the storm and come out the other side of it.

Padgett would have "weathered the storm" and simply bided his time while not landing great recruits in the expectation of others. And he would have done that for $900 thousand annually.

The bar's a little higher than that. It's why I asked in previous threads "does Mack have a bar?"...

Trey Lewis came to U of L with Snider and Mitchell on the roster already. Damion Lee came with Spalding, J. Johnson, and Adel already here. Those were all four-star guys BTW either here or coming in the door and with little idea how they would turn out.

Lee & Lewis didn't get recruited by Pitino to a roster devoid of talent, or no more so than this year's team. That's a narrative that just lowers the bar for Mack...

I remember when our fans booed Luke Hancock early in his career, and Russ had to plead to the crowd to stop it. Mack will need to be ready to handle it! Luke turned out okay!
