Super solid performance particularly coming off an emotional first week and with a shortened week to prepare.

Offensively I think Pass played well and got better as the game went along for a change. He overthrew some early downfield routes but he showed better pocket presence - especially in the RZ, ran effectively and most importantly, didn’t put the ball on the ground. Cunningham came in and showed exactly why many feel he’s a great (better?) fit for this offense. His only throw on the first play was a thing of beauty. RBs once again played really well particularly given EKU stacking the box to take the run game away. QB play will have to continue to get better or that’s what they’ll see every week. Atwell seems to be the focal point but it was good to see other WRs get targeted as they are a talented group.

Defense continued to play fast and fly to the football. Great to see those QB sacks and pressures - made EKU even more one dimensional. EKU’s TOP gave lots of opportunities for reps / experience for players at all three levels of the depth chart which will be huge later on. Shutouts in CFB ain’t easy no matter who you’re playing.

King is having a great punting year so far, not worried about Creque - he’ll be fine. Would be great to get Burns back to last season form on punt returns.

Really fun to watch the coaching staff interact with the players - they are animated and the way that they fly around makes last year’s staff look like something out of Weekend at Bernie’s. Seeing the joy on the player’s faces when the dumped that Gatorade on CSS was awesome. Overall a solid, solid win and I think, another building block for Satterfield as he rebuilds this program.

Go Cards!

I didn’t get to see all of the game, so thanks for the rundown.

Something that has stood out to me is how in shape and chiseled our guys look this year. You can tell they’ve put in a lot of work over the spring and summer and it’s paying off. Hats off to them and our Strength and Conditioning Coach.

The transition is occurring. The are being physical which is a complete change from last couple of years.

Pass is horribly inaccurate at times. He seems to lock onto Atwell. With that said 2 incompletion were due to WR falling down. Too be honest the WR outside of Atwell haven’t been very impressive. Marshall made some plays. The main thing is he didn’t regress. Next week he needs to continue to improve.

I love the fact they are playing a bunch of people. The only way to build depth is game experience. The more game experience win only benefit the program down the road.

My win total of 4 hasn’t changed but this staff gets it. They understand how to build a program. They recruit like they coach Louisville is in good shape.

Thx for posting this I did not see it this morning when I created the other thread.

Did the secondary get challenged at all or was EKU limited to mostly run and short pass plays?

Watched every second of the game. My initial thought was the defense is small but quick and fast. They swarm to the ball and they play physical. Love what I'm seeing from the defense.

The offense is much better this year than last year and it's not even close. The QB spot is still a question mark IMO though. Pass looks awful at times, and I'm not sure how long coach will stick with him especially once Cunningham gets back to 100% health.

Overall, the team is a lot better than I expected after 2 games. If these guys can stay healthy, then they'll be better and win more games than anyone anticipated.

EKU definitely favors the run. Our secondary did a great job reacting to the ball when challenged though. We had multiple times where our corners batted balls down. Probably the bigger factor was that we got pressure on their QB. Rodjay Burns has done a great job in his new “Cards” spot. He’s basically a hybrid linebacker now (what we used to call a Rover). His speed is impressive when he blitzes off the corner. We played a lot of guys which was good. And I thought our second string guys held their own.

Bottom line is that this defense is so much more drilled and more aggressive. We don’t have guys with their arms out looking at the sideline trying to figure out what the defensive calls are. That allows them to play more confidently and quickly.

This game was exactly what the doctor ordered. You could tell that Satterfield and staff really wanted to work on Puma’s passing. Puma started out a little shaky, but really improved as the game went on.

With Puma it’s all about his confidence.

This is why I don't want to see him yanked. Last year he was likely looking over his shoulder every time he threw a bad pass. This year, we lost a game where he had 3 fumbles and he had a poor 1st half against EKU, but the coaches sent him back out in the 2nd half. I think that is big for rebuilding his confidence.

Malik looked solid. Still could end up being the starter by mid-season. I’m rooting for Pass but his accuracy is more than concerning, especially against tougher competition.

Malik will get packages , but unless Pass just bombs out or gets hurt Malik will not be the starter nor should he. If you you start Malik the offense will be that much easier to defense and less effective. Pass can throw the ball much stronger and better than Malik plain and simple. Say again Malik cannot throw the ball very well.

Neither Pass nor Cunningham threw the ball very well last year. This year, Pass has not thrown the ball very well but, we haven’t seen what Cunningham can do after a year of work. As I said in another thread, the only pass that Cunningham threw and completed was the best throw by a UofL QB all game.

Agree. His completion toward the sideline was a nice crisp pass.

I agree he does lock onto Atwell...don't take this the wrong way because Atwell is electric but I don't see him as a primary receiver option? I think the outside receivers need to be more involved in the passing game. Also I know it was a small sample size but for the couple of plays Marshall was in he looked really good...would like to see him get a few more snaps.

In Coach Satt's weekly press conference, he mentioned that it's obvious they are going to have to connect downfield or we will see teams stacking the box. He expects that, but also expects our QB's to make the play.
