I love cfbdatawarehouse.com. They have some fun information to explore.

As of today, the top 5 programs in all time wins are:

Michigan - 924
Notre Dame - 892
Nebraska - 889
Texas - 886
Ohio State - 874

Assuming the current scheduling format remains and assuming Michigan wins at its historical percentage (0.72819) then Michigan will average 9.47 wins per season. At that clip, they will reach 1,000 wins in 8.03 years if they lose the up coming bowl game and 7.92 if they win it. Notre Dame can beat them to 1,000 wins if it goes 14-0 for each of the next 7.71 seasons. My money is on Michigan.

Louisville has played as of today a total of 964 games. UofL will get to 1,000 games played before Michigan gets to 1,000 wins - guaranteed, good Lord willing and the creek don't rise. Florida State (767 total games) probably will not.

Kentucky ranks 20th all time in games played with 1,242. Alabama is behind them in 24th with 1,232. But, Alabama has 862 wins (6th overall) to UK's 593.

In terms of points scored versus points allowed, as of today Oklahoma was number 1 scoring 17,629 more than its opponents. The average score of an Oklahoma game all time is OU 27.49, Opp. 13.19. In last sits Northwestern at -5,145. But, in case you are wondering, the closest to dead even is Washington State at 28. The average score of a WSU game is WSU 19.98, Opp. 19.95. Talk about nail-biters . . . and that is in 1,112 games.

Barry Switzer obviously had a bunch to do with that 27-13 margin. I loved watching his teams. Jamelle Holieway was my fav but I was really hoping to find out who was 2nd in nail biting margin behind Washington St.

Thanks in advance.

That would be UConn at +92 in 1,093 games. But I have not checked to see whether that includes their bowl game today.

More interesting to me is the relationship between delta points and win percentage. UK has an all time win percentage of 0.49477 and a delta of +2,144 in 1,242 games ranking them 69th overall in delta. UofL is #81 in delta at +956 in 964 games with a win percentage of 0.52230. That means UK is outscoring their opponents by 1.73 points per game whereas UofL is only outscoring its opponents by 0.99 points per game. Only, based on the win percentages, that clearly is not the case. Hmmmm? Me thinks the delta is a meaningless (yet, fun!!) statistic.

BTW, UNC Charlotte is third at -122 in 34 games - 3.59 per game.

Well, being an OSU grad (Oklahoma variety) I must weigh in here. Switzer was an obnoxious punk who ran a renegade program. He basically took over for Chuck Fairbanks in the 70s when CCF went to the NFL and just kept the program running. He ran up the score on a lot of weak programs (Iowa State, Kansas, K- State, and Colorado, Mizzou, OSU depending in the year). His players regularly used and sold drugs, skipped class, even had weapons on campus. As far as I'm concerned the guy was a criminal and even got his SB win using Jimmy Johnson's team - he did nothing. Hollieway was a good wishbone QB but he drove off another QB who transferred out - Troy Aikman. Sorry I had to vent about that scumbag. He could have coached at LPT, except not even CBS could have won there.

I still loved watching those teams play. As far as Barry running up the score on teams I do remember OU pummeling the Iowa States and Kansases of the world but when you beat a team 63-7 and throw only 3 passes the entire game it's kind of hard to say it's running it up.

Now Steve Spurrier and the Fun n Gun beating Central Michigan 82-7 was a different story although who didn't love the ole ball coach beating UK 73-7, 65-0 etc..?

For the record the 1988 Oklahoma State team with Barry Sanders, Mike Gundy and Hart Lee Dykes were one of my all time favorite teams to watch. Barry was just electric. How many 200 and 300+ yard games rushing did he have that year?
He didn't just do it against cream puffs either. I remember him having big games against the heavyweights Nebraska, Oklahoma and Colorado too.

Yes a very "fun" statistic. This is fascinating stuff

Me too. Used to work with a guy who was a OSU LB in that era. We discussed FB on a few occasions. He told me of the no-hit rule they had for Thurman Thomas during practice. When I asked about Barry Sanders, he laughed and said, "We couldn't hit Barry if we wanted to." The 1988 (I think) loss to OU was a total screw job by the officials.

Good stuff. I do remember that. I can't recall if Charles Thompson or Jamelle Holieway was QB for Oklahoma in that game.

If I remember correctly all the teams in the Big 8 played on Astro-turf back then but I guess that was the norm in places where fall weather could be rough.
