Fresh

I said early in the year if he is still playing minutes in March we will not be contenders.

I am not mad at him. He is undersized, slow, an average ballhandler, and a poor shooter. Has been for 5 years. He should not be playing significant minutes for a top 10 team. He seems like a fine young man..... but as a player he is what he is. Not his fault

Before we dismiss Fresh, you should note that the Cards were -16 with DJ on the floor. He did not play with the necessary intensity on defense. In particular he was lazy on the hedge by Huff and left Clark wide open for that dagger 3.

Exactly right. Defensively, he is solid but he is not a good PG running the offense especially when he gets caught up just dribbling out the shot clock. DJ will learn to play defense. Williamson has learned. DJ's development was slowed due to his injury.

Seems to me the lack of having guys taking defenders off the dribble hurts this team. DJ can do it, and he does it at times.

Ultimately I see shot clock winding down multiple possessions and maybe not having that type of consistent player makes everybody look bad at times. It's almost like, who gets stuck with the ball last ends up chucking with the shot clock winding down.

In theory going through the post with Enoch could open things up. But at this level, a great opposing coach can take away a "good" but not "great" offensive big man.

I also think UofL doesn't get that secondary transition game going, because they don't have enough play makers.

Marcus Maybin whom knows how the guard position is to be played. Has stated that what everybody is crying about saying Kimble dribbles too much. Is not him doing that intentionally that based on the defense and offense the other players are not moving into their proper spots that they supposed to be in . He stated he has heard Mack on the sidelines yelling at them too move.

If that's true then how come DJ can usually pass the ball to start the offense instead of dribbling for 15 seconds?

Fresh turns his back and dribbles. But again, I'm not mad at him. He tries hard and does his best with the size and ability he has.

He's not near good enough to wear the nickname of Fresh... He's Kimble at best for me..

Easy answer for that one Bobby V stated they run ball screen offense for DJ because thats what he is comfortable running. Guys im no bb coach nor is anyone else for the most part on here. CCM knows what he's doing and why .None of us have a clue. And Bobby V stated this to a caller whom sounded like some posters on here about Mack not making adjustments he broke down Macks schemes and philosophies to the caller. Whom was left silent. As i will never say what CCM does and doesnt do or know.

The problem with going through Enoch is he doesn't pass. When he gets the ball everybody knows hes going to shoot or else.
One good example of why this offense going through the post is not good is the other players are not doing their part. Enoch got double teamed under the basket he passed out across the lane to the corner to Ryan ball was intercepted . That was Ryan fault he had plenty time to release toward the goal shortening the pass. He just stood on three line. Same as when Fresh is probing the other guys don't move.

And i would respectfully disagree. They set those same ball screens for kimble.... a lot.

Also.... very often DJ just comes across and throws the ball to another player to start the offense..... no ball screen.

And lastly...... using the ball screen for DJ vs UVA IMO plays into their hand. They hedge on it better than anyone, effectively taking his driving ability away and also wasting seconds. Hence 2 shots.

I saw that play Red..... and i agree. Except i thought Nwora should have left the 3pt line and cut right down the open lane. Then the defender would have had to make a choice between Nwora layup or leaving ryan in the corner. But instead, they both stood at 3pt line allowing the one defender to basically gaurd both, knowing he had a chance at either crosscourt pass

On that play the guy guarding Nwora intercepted the pass. When he completely turned his head to ball watch Nwora never moved. He should have made himself available to Enoch as another option. That turnover is on Nwora too.

The play being discussed is exactly why this team struggles. If either player moves it forces the Virginia player to do something but instead he just plays center field. There was another play where Enoch got the ball but the timing of the cut was off and he gets a 3 sec call.

Offensively that is my biggest issue with a team with a bunch of experience guys they don’t listen or aren’t being coached. They really are bad when 3’s are falling. They become too easy to guard. It all about player movement, the timing, speed and execution of their movement. Some teams don’t need to be really good at that but this one does. They aren’t that is why they won’t do much in the tournament.

Especially when your not as talented individually as they are . They have to play with ball movement and bb iq. When they are patient on offense and the shots are falling with the ball moving around They have shown to be a very good team. However you see every player on this team take the first shot in the offense ill advised on their part. What Macks offense is it allows the player to do that but only if the shot dictates it. Unfortunate problem he has guys that really seem to not be able to grasp those concepts consistently.

However going forward i am very confident with two of the freshman Dj and Sam both seem to have a grasp of what Mack wants. however they are freshman so you get the obvious mistakes. And they have only been exposed to Macks style unlike the other guys whom in hindsight have had too adjust to 1,2,and 3 different styles . Something fans need to understand with this team .

I’m not the biggest Fresh fan. I feel like his 3 point shot has gotten worse as the year’s progressed. Could be my imagination. Still I’d like to see him cut down on his 3 point attempts.

Ryan and Jordans shot has gotten to be less automatic and they are our best natural shooters. Fresh really had been taken them at certain moments with sucess .

As an undersized guard he is a surprising poor shooter. 5 years.....38% from the field, 30% from 3. He's actually a little under that this year at 35% fg, 27% on 3s. Worst overall shooter on team. But again, he is what he's always been. Can't be mad at him.
