For whatever the reason, you’re an a-hole if you criticize the women’s game.

It’s the risk I’m willing to take. First of all, the officiating. It’s terrible. It’s so unbearably awful, it sets the women’s game back. It’s so inconsistent and, just plain bad. I don’t know how coaches deal with it. It’s a point of aggravation that kills any entertainment value the women’s game offers. Furthermore, I can’t stand the timeout/get the ball at half court. It screams “these women are incapable of running the full court to get an important basket in a must score possession.” It’s not fair. It’s another example of special rules the women play by, because of perceived lack of athleticism. Then there’s the smaller ball they play with. They are perfectly capable of playing with a normal sized ball, but let’s give them an advantage because why? They need all the help they can get?? They don’t. No ten second count to bring the ball up- why? It all doesn’t sit right with me. Equality, right? Right??

Rant over.

Believe me but it’s has come a long away... Having said that I saw a play today in U of L’s loss to FSU where a FSU player tried to shoot a layup. It completely missed everything and the same player caught the ball again (has to be a walk or something) and then put it back up again and FSU scored...

They do that in the NBA also..... so does it scream the same thing there?

I agree with the refereeing absolutely sucks in college basketball. Not only on the women’s side but also on the men’s. I watch a lot of games and the refs get caught up in the emotion of the game and make bad calls. All I ask is if they are going to be bad be bad at both ends of the court and they aren’t.
The women’s game today the refs were really bad. I saw the same play you saw where the FSU play had picked up her dribble and she tried to shoot a layup and the ball went over the rim and didn’t touch anything. She took 4 steps and caught the ball on the other side of the rim and put it in. The ref was standing right there and never called anything.
Two things that really bothered me was the lack of calls on moving picks and the lack of calls on balls that were tied up by both teams. That is how players get hurt and FSU was setting moving picks the whole game. Bad refereeing in college sports is really ruining the game they need to do better.

Yep, I saw that, and was like WTF? Then, a few plays later, Diop gets a rebound, then gets pushed from behind and falls over an FSU player who was lying on the floor. Walk!!

I don’t know. I’m talking college ball. NBA is filled with a bunch of effortless divos, so coddling them is par for the course.

I’ve become a big fan of women’s basketball, but it’s for sure a different game because of the athleticism issue. You watch it without comparing it to men’s basketball. If you can’t do that, you can’t appreciate it.

Where my fan support for women’s basketball has increased is the part(s) of the men’s game that turns me off. The hero ball, the head cases, the lack of team play and fundamentals, the entitlement mentality. I have increasingly less use for that. And if it creeps into the women’s game, I’ll feel the same way...

For the Men's game, this may be a result of a revolving door, transfers in for one year, transfers out, guys turning pro after 2 years, and maybe after only 1 year as a starter. It's just really difficult to get cohesion when guys play together for such a short period of time. Factor in some guys playing for 3 different coaches with different playbooks, and the product is just not going to be what we've seen in the past. So much adjustment. Are we watching hero ball, or are we watching guys that aren't familiar enough with their teammates and/or the plays being run?

For me something is missing as a fan because it's no longer a journey with a player. Blink and time's up. Instead of watching guys grow, we watch them go. That 5th year SR has to be some kind of elite to leave a real mark on fans. Same with the early departures.

Do women turn pro after one year? Do they transfer in and out like the men? I really don't know. We know there's been only one coach for a long time, so system/structure/style is cemented.

I'm not leveling indictments of the men's game exclusively or even mostly at U of L. We see those things at least as much in many of the teams we play.

And if that's the direction the game is headed, there's not much that U of L can do beyond slowing it down here. IMO, a guy like Nwora who has been my current whipping boy wouldn't have played many minutes for Pitino--he would have transferred. But how long can you replace those guys with other guys who can compete? Probably not much longer. The oddity is Dwayne Sutton, not Jordan Nwora.

Back to the women's game, I don't see nearly as much of that even among the best players. And it's not as likely to show up in their sport anytime soon. Much of it is due to the high financial stakes of the NBA and kids growing up wanting to play there and NOT in college. The worst thing that could likely happen to the women's collegiate game is for the WNBA to start spiraling up financially...

My perspective is the women’s game is mimicking the men’s game but are behind and catching up. UCONN’s women were the men’s UCLA dynasty. I don’t think you will see one team dominate as much. South Carolina, Baylor, Oregon, etc have stepped up their programs. U of L will lose a lot this year and I think you will begin to see the use of grad transfers like the men. Diop is already one example.

I agree I watch as much women basketball as men’s. The inconsistency is frustrating to watch. This is one that kills me in both the men’s and women’s game. Out front a moving screen is forbidden. You move they will generally call it. However, on the pin down screens on the baseline they never call it. The picker is being taught to move into the defender as soon as their play clears. It is a moving screen every time never called.

The women’s game is better because they execute actually plays through the offenses. That comes with more experienced players. It is also a reason UConn was so dominant. Better players executing at a high level. They are starting to have the same issues as the men with transfers.

It is permissible to shoot a basketball, it hit nothing and go get your own rebound. It is not considered a traveling violation.

on a side note, with the screen and roll calls, the lakers played the bucks the other night and they went straight at giannis defending the lane by using the pick and roll but they've added a new twist that sounds like what talking about. the picker for the lakers would set the pick and immediately roll to the hoop which is legal but then the ball handler simply follows the picker down the lane as uses him as a moving pick but it cannot be called just due to the natural motion of the picker rolling to the hoop. easy to call at the top of the lane but no so much from the foul line in. it's the new adjustment to beat a tall lane defender. you roll right into them and the ball handler follows them.

Frustrating to watch at times but not unbearable. As far as UofL and their talent goes. Yes, they will lose players - as they do each year. The fact is: They have a McD AA player RSing this year! They have two more McD AAs coming in next year and one of them is going to be fantastic - Van Lith. The WBB program is in fantastic shape. Come out to the Yum Center for the NCAA first and second games and support the team.
