FIRE KENNY PAYNE!

I gotta believe that is the death nail. May not happen until we get totally embarrassed by Kin-sucky though..

What a motivator throwing your student athletes under the bus.
"the players just don't get it"
Maybe they just don't speak his particular dialect of dumbass

Ricky Jones says we are being too hard on KP and he implied it is because we are a racist city. He also said we need to hire a black President for the University. Then I started to ponder what this race baiter said. How can we be racist because we want to fire a coach who can’t win ballgames even though he is being paid millions of dollars to do so.

Then I pondered even further and thought wait a minute we got rid of a coach ( a white guy ) who won us a lot of ballgames even a National Title. We temporarily put a temporary coach ( another white guy ) in place who had as much Head Coaching experience as KP but like I said he was only temporary. Next we hired another white guy who won 4 or 5 times more games than KP and we let him go. I think Ricky Jones should go back to Georgia and get out of Louisville because almost everything he says is bulls$&t.

Individually, Jones is a nobody. But he’s representing a faction that will absolutely have its say. It’s what clowns bought into when they hired an AA coach for this job.

And it doesn’t matter if you or I have a problem with that…

The fact race is playing a role in this BS disaster is both expected and infuriating.

I DGAF who you are, where you’re from, your background, culture, race or history, Kenny Payne sucks at his job. He sucks, terrible.

Not asking for a white coach. Asking for a good coach.

Other then athletics U ol L gets not a dime from me as long as Ricky Jones is
employed there and spews his vile across the community

To sum up this entire mess in one word…..LAZY. Now that we have the data the hiring, the way KP and staff have handle the program was and is LAZY.

He has built 2 rosters that make no sense offensively or defensively. What does that tell us? I admit I completely miss this as a red flag. Him and his staff are lazy when evaluating players in high school and the portal. They never had to identify talent it came to them. KP and Smith just had to pick which elite guy they wanted. That is entirely different than identifying Gorgi, Miles, Kuric, Knowles or OBannon. They have no one on staff driven to dig. They are LAZY.

The approach to last season was LAZY. The way they play is LAZY. Their rotations are LAZY. Their discipline is LAZY. Their execution is LAZY.

Let it play out, firing now only creates issues from the PR world which in today’s world matter. Plus the coaching rumor mills start gaining traction which leads to coaches getting extensions that end up on the list. Let it end badly. The only way out is the players entering the portal before December.

I agree with this. Let it play out this season. Nothing will change this season with either Manning or Smith taking over on an interim basis. Let KP finish with 8 or so wins with less than 5 thousand people at the Yum center.

The players that matter will transfer and the transfers that matter will not choose to come here. UofL will have no choice but to fire the entire staff and bring in coaches that know what they're doing, even if it's a coach from Eastern Jacksonville State.

This experiment has failed miserably and after each embarrassing loss, the hole the program is in gets deeper. It's getting so bad, ESPN should do a 30 for 30 series on the absolute ineptitude of the University of Louisville's decision making on the men's basketball program.

The other sports programs are not going through this. There's something not only rotten in Denmark, but also with the men's basketball program and if it continues it ultimately will bleed into the other sports programs.

For those who still defend KP they need to consider not only the damage to the program but also the damage to KP himself. I agree he's a nice guy who doesn't deserve to be eviscerated for failing at his job, but he's not at Murray State or Evansville. He's at the University of Louisville. A all time top 10 program who he is slowly turning into Morehead State.

And a whole hell of a lot of people will never forgive him for it. Only Andre McGee will be loathed more than Kenny Payne. Leave now and after a couple of seasons, this two season debacle will just be a temporary blip and not the genesis of a program collapse.

Kenny Payne's whole demeanor is lazy. He even talks lazy..

Well good luck in firing him. If you fire him now, as zipp stated there is a large black population (excluding me) that thinks kp is doing a good job and needs more time. I have a buddy that still feels this team can still make the ncaa tournament. Plus the major question is, does the athletic department want to pay 2-3 coaches for the next 3 years?
2024-25 salaries: 2025-26 salaries
Mack 1.6million.
Payne:3.25million. Payne:3.25million
May? 4million. May? 4million

we was mad louisville live didnt happen thjs season. Well be prepared for it to not happen for a while. Ever wonder why we dont hear kp or staff travel to recruits during the season( quick flights between games, etc). Could it be because there isnt much money in the budget to do so?

And that circles around to another 'fire kp' thread that the pockets that wanted him hired in the first place haven't gone out of their way to do what is needed to support him other than with words.
I agree. His connections burned him or left him. It is a brutal world and the reality is the basketball community has turned their back on him. When the movers and shakers in that world refuse to help one of their own. KP isn’t alone either.

With that said he had the opportunity to coach his way out of this and didn’t.

Disagree with the lazy … to me it’s just a lack of coaching talent and experience which gets exposed at this level. If Kenny had been willing to take a pay cut and land a good lower level job as a HEAD COACH ten years ago, then he might have proven himself capable of this job at this point.

He should have never been hired in the first place, and as TAFKAZ is fond of saying, it’s an indictment of UofL’s current athletics leadership, and yes that includes Josh Heird, who hired him.

I think the ready-fire-aim crowd underestimates the issues to resolve Payne’s situation. It’s why there’s almost no chance he’s fired before season’s end. And there are gonna have to be a lot more DePaul games for it to happen at the end of the year.

No good coach, i.e., one with options, will want to step into a toxic situation where former players and the AA community are PO’d at the school and how the last coach was terminated.

You’re putting blinders on not recognizing this stuff…

Even some of Paynes staunchest supporters are starting to or have changed their minds on him. He still has some supporters but they aren't showing up to games.

If this is the case we should never hire a black coach in any sport. If you can’t fire a coach who can’t win ballgames then don’t ever put yourself in the situation.
You can fire an AA coach, we’ve done it ourselves. Ron Cooper won one game in his third year and was fired by Jurich. That was three years, not 1+ year.

And all circumstances are different… Cooper had no prior U of L connections. He also wasn’t hired by Jurich. No one in this community had allegiances to/with Cooper. It’s not worth checking the details, but I don’t recall any issues with his buyout.

Cooper was progressively worse from year to year. It was obviously getting worse as time went on. Payne’s a disaster, but he’s been a disaster from game one. (Leann Rhymes) His progress has been neither up nor down. The only thing tanking are fan attitudes.

People want things to happen now. Timing is the issue…

I’m sure this will shock you but, I disagree - lol. There will be plenty of coaches with options that would absolutely come to UofL - provided (as always) that the money is right.

Though I think we’d all love it if everyone associated with the program - past and present - could sit around together and sing Kumbaya, the reality is - who gives a shit if the former players are pissed off? What have they done / what are they currently doing to assist the program? Ellison doesn’t send any of his best players and uncle milty couldn’t even deliver his own GD grandson - just for two quick examples.

There was far more negativity surrounding pitino’s hire - with crum’s ouster and the general slip in the team and it’s results.

I’ll be honest with you and hindsight being 20/20 Milt might have told DJ not to come to Louisville.

I’ve lived in this area most of my life. Rightly or not, I think the AA community here feels it has a special relationship—and privilege—with the men’s basketball program.

It’s not grounded in money. It’s what they believe they fostered and committed to dating back decades. They feel they had a big hand in building the program without any form of compensation. You notice many of the more outspoken players have longtime roots in Louisville and this area.

Again, you and I don’t have to agree with that, and I’m not making excuses for anyone at U of L responsible for this mess. I’m just pointing out what you’re up against when you expect quick action that involves getting rid of Payne without consequences…
