I decided to watch Sanders’ film since he has come up as the top QB option for us. Some key takeaways I got are the following:
1. Quick Release and strong arm - I was not expecting such a quick release and strong arm from a guy that is the son of one of the fastest DBs to ever play. His most eye popping attribute on film was his arm talent which is what you want to see from the QB spot.
2. Big play ability with his legs - from what I saw on film, he inherited a good portion of his father’s speed, but is clearly not a 4.2 40 guy. I would say his running ability would be similar to Cunningham’s, who is no slouch at all with his legs.
3. Build - It makes sense that a son of an NFL player would have the resources to build a college football-ready body, but yet I found myself surprised at this. Sanders would not have to put on much weight based on his height (only 6’1” or 2”) and some sites have him listed at 200 which looks accurate on film.
Overall as a player comparison I would say he’s a lot like Cunningham or Russell Wilson if you compare to the pros. His positive attributes are above, but I’d say his only drawbacks are:
1. Size - he’s a little undersized but not a problem in college football and really the pros now are starting to have guys around 6’ so not a total issue.
2. Average accuracy - there were throws where he was on the money and other throws where his guys had to slow down a good amount to catch the ball. Overall I’d give him a solid B on accuracy but that can improve with QB coaching as we all know.
I encourage the board to watch some film as well, which I know many of you do, but I figure this type of thread for a few different players would be a fun addition to the PRB to see what everyone thinks.
