It doesn't get much more exciting than last night for UofL Field Hockey.

The Cards rallied from behind, forced an overtime scenario, played two of those and went to a five-player shootout to determine the winner against Duke last night.

The overtime almost never happened.

Duke took an early third quarter lead 1-0 with a goal just 90 seconds into the second half.

The crowd at Trager saw the Cardinals tie the game at 1-1 with 7.7 seconds left to play in the fourth quarter and regulation behind Julie Kouijzer’s penalty corner goal. The teams would go on to battle through two scoreless overtime periods before the contest moved into a shootout.

The Cards prevailed 3-1 in the best-of-five shootout as attempts by Katie Schneider and Kelsey McCrudden found the back of the cage and Emilia Kaczmarczyk’s shootout goal sealed the victory.
A lengthy review ensued to make sure the shot was attempted before the shootout shot clock expired, and then Duke called for a review of the previous review. Kazzie's goal was upheld, though, (twice) and the Cards got their first ACC win of the season.

Louisville goalkeeper Sasha Elliott also came up big with three stops in the shootout, thwarting three Blue Devil attempts after surrendering a goal on their initial try.

With the win, the #7 Cards improve to 11-3 on the season and 1-3 in ACC play while Duke drops to 5-9 (0-5 ACC).

Thanks to the Cardinal Couple guys, we have post game footage from Coach Sowry, Emilia Kaczmarczyk, and Sasha Elliott.
