Modern era victories.......
Over the last 10 tournament seasons, (2005-2014 for those Cat fans stalking our site that are afflicted with learning disorders)
I did a study of the won loss record in the NCAA tourney. Uk has caught up with Louisville in Tournament wins as of this last year to lead the nation in that distinction as co-runner up champs of that era.
Despite the embarrassment of two Nit seasons for UK in that time period (including a near Cat fan suicide watch blowout loss to Robert Morris in the 2013 NIT)...
Uk has pulled even with the Cardinals in Tournament victories at 23 wins. They are to be congratulated for hiring an administration just shady enough to figure out a slimy way to keep pace with UofL (even though it seems dirty or 'not quite cricket' to the overwhelming majority of fans of the collegiate experience).
UNC actually has lead in victories in that 10 year era courtesy of two NC's in 05' and 09' for 12 wins of their total 28 in the same time frame. Duke just for reference sake had 18.
2015's tourney is not over yet and so we shall see who gets the bragging rights going forward this year and especially in the seasons to come.
I like Louisville's chances as theirs is a model that can be repeated and perpetuated over and over with unarguably the nations best fan base, HOF coach, and the highest revenue base of any team combined, along with the most attractive sports facilities in the country under the best AD in the country as well.
While it seems that this seasons highest honors have all but been bestowed on uk by the media, and seem destined for the Cats trophy case..the rest of the season still needs to be played.
Should uk figure out a way to get their freshman phenoms to play together against elite competition for the first time in months,(3 games in a row now...) and win, it seems only a matter of time before the squid will abandon Uk for NBA glory (possibly also in an effort to extricate himself from the WWW shadow and the likely sanctions from possible graft/bribes to influence AAU or high school coaches attracting and directing players etc.).
Those events alone are certain to eventually darken the Rump arena area.... the likelihood of the squid remaining at Uk without recruiting advantages is nearly nil, as the passage of regulations restoring sanity to the college student athlete experience stops the madness (shutting off the illegitimate pipeline of 6 month AAU players through Lexington AAU college) .
The possible temporary loss of our tourney dominance is sure to return to its rightful station at the top of the commonwealth and the land overall after this bridge season.
God bless the Louisville Cardinal fan community for their unrivaled support and God bless the 2015 Louisville Cardinal basketball team and staff as they show the world what L1C4 really means. GO Cards!!!!!
Legitimate student athlete National Champions in my mind and in two weeks......REALITY!!!!!
