My OP is not a fail. JHC, Shaq Wiggins, Hearns and many others were injured at the end of the season. They were the core of the man to man defense. Take away guys like that and you suffer.

Look at our defense last year and compare it to this year. Now look at Mississippi State‘s defense last year and compare it to this year. There sure are a helluva lot of people that are in, and know a helluva lot more about football than you - that continue to pay him millions to lead defenses.
Do I think Grantham is the best defensive coordinator history of football? Of course not but, compared to sirmon he sure as shit is. I think what makes the thread pointless is that even though the media made it sound like we “traded” DC’s, that’s not what happened. Grantham was gone because he couldn’t get along with Bobby and Bobby wanted to minimize the loss be filling the position as if we didn’t miss a beat. Miss St has better talent. BUT, I will give you that he IS better than Sirmon, by a long shot. However, he has given up MAJOR points to the two best teams that Miss State has played. And that seems to be ignored. And he did the same here for the most part.
How do you know MSU has better talent? “Major points” are given up to the best teams - even by the other best teams - in CFB. That’s the reality.
This staff's goals is beyond winning every game and losing to the best teams on the roster. They want to win it all. And that wasnt getting done. Nor is it with this guy. Plus BP and Grantham had issues. No reason for me to think that giving up 40 to Uk, 29 to LSU, 36 to Houston, wasnt all Granthams fault.
Just because BP made a bad hire doesnt mean that Grantham leaving was a mistake.
People blame Sirmon now for the defense as they should, so you can't give Grantham a pass for those mishaps either.

If I was the AD, Sirmon would be gone as soon as the season ended. And if Petrino said no, he'd be gone too. Unacceptable to see the performance on the field.

Is it even worth comparing? Todd Grantham has been coaching defenses since 1990. Sirmon started coaching around 2008 and most, of not all his experience has been at linebacker coach because he played linebacker at college and in the NFL. Petrino made a gamble on a young, up and comer that is over his head, period.
