Both the NCAA DI and the ACC have released their top five for Field Hockey this fall. And Louisville FH is ranked #5 in both.

Huh?

The ACC:
1) UNC
2) Boston College
3) Wake Forest
4) Duke
5) LOUISVILLE

NCAA DI:

1) UNC
2) Michigan
3) Iowa
4) Northwestern
5) LOUISVILLE

The NCAA puts Boston College at #7, Virginia at #8, Wake Forest at #11, Duke at #12.

Welcome to the topsy-turvy world of Field Hockey rankings. in DI and Conferences.

Scheduling may dictate how we are perceived. The ACC would look at “internal” conference games and potential wins/losses. Because sports like FH must find more local teams to play your school may rank higher on the entire schedule vs a view of conference only games.

The ACC is the dominant conference in both lacrosse and field hockey. A last place ranking in conference in either sport is probably a top ten ranking nationally.

Seven ACC schools play Field Hockey. UofL plays the other six once each. All seven ACC schools are ranked in the top 15. Looking at the Cards non-conference slate, they play 12 matches. Out of those, they face Michigan #2, Iowa #3, UConn #6, Liberty #10, Princeton #13, Miami (OH) #21, Ohio St #22 and James Madison #24.

That's a pretty rigorous, high-ranked schedule for anyone, in any sport. Field Hockey plays their first regular season match Friday, at home, against Ohio U. Louisville Field Hockey was 2-0 in pre-season exhibition matches -- defeating the Alumnae 5-0 and Bellarmine 10-0.

That’s a crazy schedule

Actually it is a great schedule. To be the best you must play the best. Our Cards have so much potential. Looking forward to this season.
