I get on here sometimes and i say alot of what is construed as negative towards the team. Which i am not but pointing out some of the weaknesses and lack of talent on this team . Their some that get mad and just sing praise after a win. Never looking at the reality of this team's overall talent. I know it's hard for some to fathom how we can play lights out against certain teams and suck on others. Goes a little like this teams under estimated Cards at times , we were hitting our shots which allows any team to play against anybody, and match ups some teams regardless of the talent level schemes just don't jive with available personal. Granted the lack of energy effort is totally on the players Mack is a firey coach so i doubt he doesn't light a fire. this team just isn't mentally bb tough in nutshell sometines this team has is a patchwork team when you have to count on Sutton(Asheville),Cunnigham(Samford),Fore(Richmond) and Mchmon you are not an elite team. And Mack didn't have them prepared is total bull crap to beat a zone like Cuse you need certain players to be able handle it this team just doesn't have the personel. I thought this team would win because i knew Cuse was not good but this team shot the worse it has all season this game.Besides this was Mack's first time against the cause in the carrier.

I'm really ok with where we are with this team. If we play the Orange in the ACC Tourney,it's very likely the same thing will happen. It's not a good matchup.
I've thought since the beginning of the season that I'd be happy with a return to the Big Dance. I still feel that way today. Some fans are happier when they are miserable. Make sense?

You’re correct, it is a horrible matchup but that was an embarrassing display last night. No one involved should get a pass on last night’s performance.

Maybe they all should get a pass. Have we given them one yet this season for effort? I think their frustration at missing shots boiled over into what we saw in other areas.
I haven't given up on them. I just hope we don't see Syracuse anymore.

I think the tough lesson learned last night is that when the shots don't fall, get yourself back in the game in other ways, primarily defense and hustle. Will they learn the lesson?
I can almost hear echoes of Rick Pitino clamoring for more defense in a game like this. Can't shoot it straight? Man up at the other end and dig in harder. They obviously didn't do that last night.

I agree RedFist, we looked like crap last night and it has been a rough few weeks. Look at the big picture and I wouldnt trade spots with anyone. 3 GT's, 2 transfers, a 6' white kid no one wanted sprinked in with some decent talent. I've asked before, who in October thought this team had a chance at 20 wins and a firm bid to the tourney? I guessed 18-13 and bubble team and we are going to exceed that. We have a few weeks to straighten some things out. Honestly wont be shocked if we lose first round or make it the sweet 16. Either way, I am not going to dog OUR team afterwards.

You all better medicate yourselves before football, cuz I read people thinking we are going to win 6 games this season and you are crazy. I'll take 4-8 and run! Both basketball and football are in a state of transition, put your card gear on, be realistic, and cheer for your team good or bad!

Fans can have realistic expectations and still be critics, now if they have never seen a zone before in their careers (coaches included) then id give a pass. The issue is not with where we stand its with how many bone headed simple fundamental mistakes are we going to make over and over and over again. If duke or clemson had just blown us out we say ok whatever move on, but the basketball IQ has been lacking and thats whats frustrating. We know they could be so much better than they currently are, if they hadn't shown promise all year then it is what it is, but were good enough to compete with anyone if the IQ comes around

Some of that is having 20 games of tape and idenitfying weaknesses.
-Nwora dribbling more than twice is a weakness.
-Putting pressure on our 6'0 guards at any level gives us issues.
-Pushing us out on O so that we cant get our bigs in the right positions and people open on the wings limits our offense.
-Our D plays good times, but due to our size, we oftentimes end up with matchup issues on pick and pops and people rolling to the basket off a screen or a bump.
This happens across basketball and oftentimes why teams barely break .500 in conference play. We have to make adjustments and either that message isnt making it to the kids or they are getting in their own way. Other teams are improving and we are stuck or even regressing right now. I am VERY hopeful they figure it out in the next 2.5-3 weeks!

They’ve gotten plenty of passes IMO:

*no show vs kitties on home court
*missed opportunities vs Tenn/Marquette
*lose to horrible IU team
*lose @ Pitt (they’ve won ONCE since)
*choke vs FSU
*meltdown vs Duke
*meltdown vs Clemson
*mail in (players & staff) vs Cuse

You can still be a fan and criticize your team. We should have high expectations. Our talent is down, but the team and staff showed their hand this season. Therefore, the bar was raised.

Well then,by all means...carry on.

I'll be happy if this team makes it anywhere past sweet 16. Every time see another Nwora pass hitting the back of a defender, I head to the bar for another drink.

Settle for BS if you wish. We didn’t get in the ACC, build The Yum, expand Cardinal Stadium, etc for participation trophies!

Again, I think my biggest frustration last night was pregame preparation, game plan prep by the coaching staff and EFFORT by mostly Nwora. That guy wouldn’t have guarded a fence post last night. Lazy BS effort by him.

I think Syracuse was a bad matchup for us they had the length on us in almost every position. Cunningham was matched with a guy all night that was 5" taller than him. That's why I think we might beat Virginia. We play the pack line defense better than they do.
We also matchup better against them than we do against Syracuse. The Virginia guards Guy and Jerome are good but they both look like high school kids. They have no muscle development at all I wonder if they even have a strength coach. I will say all this and those 2 will probably kill us, I hope not.

No,not settling for anything and I'm old enough to say I never got a participation trophy. All I'm saying is we never expected much from this group and it is a rebuild. It's all gravy to me.
I get your frustration with certain guys though.

You really need to omit that bullet point we just had a HOf coach that won what 2 games in 17 years against that school with alot of choke jobs their . And a bit more talent you say.

I'm thinking the same. Match up nightmare for this team that has struggled all season against teams with length. Just couldn't get it going. And Cuse was nailing their 3s as well to top it off.

Not saying Mack couldn't have done anything better but we don't have the personnel to simulate anything close to the Cuse zone and length in practice.

I fear another embarrassing performance is coming against Virginia. Hard to imagine getting the ball close to the hoop with that packline, I foresee lots of 3's getting chucked; need a great shooting night.

It happens every year after a bad game. People flip out and go off the rails. I knew it was going to be like that last night so I just avoided this board for that reason. Didn't feel like dealing with it.

What did we learn last night that we didn't already know? The only thing I can think of is we have nobody capable of hitting a 12 to 15 foot jumpshot from the middle of the lane. Other than that, we already knew these guys don't handle ball pressure very well, and we already knew that length bothers them a great deal too. The team never got comfortable against that 2-3 hybrid matchup zone, which is why it's so effective. Not many teams are comfortable playing against it. We played well enough on defense to win the game. The offensive was 100% terrible last night.

I was really surprised by how poorly Sutton performed in that spot. I would have thought his shooting ability and handle would have been what was needed. VJ King acutally looked the best in that spot to me.

I hope VJ graduates and goes somewhere as a grad transfer. He needs and deserves a fresh start. I’d love to see the bulb turn on for him but it ain’t happening here. His confidence is 100% shot. I hate it and pull for him to succeed but it’s not in the cards for him here (no pun intended).

Anybody who pushes back against the fanboy narrative--even other fanboys--is viewed as "embarrassing".

Some things you can set your watch to...

What gets me is after a loss, people want to critique the team by pointing out their weaknesses. Don't you think we all watch the same games and know what is happening. Some think if they don't explain it to us over and over, we won't know what's going on.

No offense but, that’s what a message board is. At least half of of the reason it exists is to revel in the wins and complain about the losses and more importantly - share your opinions on all of it.

I don't have a problem with people reporting what their eyes see, even if it's repeating themselves or someone else.

What I have a problem with is people arguing that they know what a solution is. At best, you have an opinion or idea, and you need to couch it that way. You probably don't KNOW jack...
