I know we had a few PITT lurkers earlier in the year would love to hear their thoughts on their team and this week's ball game.

I got no prediction for the Cards in this one. They are just so inconsistent. Hoping for a good one!

Mike in INDY here. CARDS come to play and squeak out a 1 pt win on a late TD or Field goal.

Good to see the Panthers and Cards playing again. Not paying Louisville was one thing I missed when Pitt joined the ACC. I really didn't think I would get to see the Cards play at Heinz again. As for Pitt, they are far from a complete team, but they give 100% effort the entire game. Narduzzi definitely has the Panthers going in the right direction. This week's game should be very close. I'll take Pitt 24-23.

I feel like PITT has the upper hand in this series. Just seems like I recall them handing it to us a few times over the years.

PITT has a stud WR this year, correct?

Expecting this to be a good, competitive game. Probably going to come down to a "who wants it more" kind of contest and/or who creates the most turnovers. No predictions as to winner or score; could end up anywhere on the spectrum.
But winner will likely get a far superior bowl compared to the loser. So quite a bit at stake other than the rivalry and standings and momentum, etc.

Examining PITT's 3 losses...

27-24 @ undefeated Iowa
26-19 vs one loss UNC
42-30 vs one loss ND

I think if we play like we played vs UVA they will actually beat the crap out of us.

I agree this is going to be a tough game for us, we are going to have play a really good game to win this one. Pitt is missing some parts that would make them a really good team but they play really hard to make up for it.

Pitt looked good against Duke, otherwise their season has been similar to ours (close losses against good teams and winning in non-dominant fashion against teams they should beat).

they have a good receiving corps and good QB, we have a decent pass D...strength vs strength kind of game.

We do struggle against any kind of good D play and Pitt has put together a manageable D.

This will be the defining game for us this season, so here's hoping we do what we did at Syracuse and not what we did with Wake.

I look for us to step up and be very competitive and have a good chance to get the W, my guess is a late FG win for us.

Pitt has a freakishly good WR in Boyd. He will get his, no matter what. We (UNC) covered him pretty dang well and he still made several amazing catches. They also line him up all over the place, including the backfield, to get him touches because he's by far their best offensive threat.

Beyond Boyd, they have a solid RB in Ollison. Other than that though, there's not an abundance of impact offensive weapons, IMO. Additionally, their OL appears to be suspect to pass rush. The Tar Heels have struggled with getting to the QB this season (because we rarely blitz and instead rely on our front 4), but we managed to get to their QB quite a few times for either sacks or hurried throws.

Defensively, Pitt will hit hard. Their one weakness is their secondary.

For selfish reasons, I want to see a Louisville victory!!

Really worried about this game as Pitt is probably the best team we have played since FSU. Currently we are a 2-2.5 point dog. If we beat Pitt, I really don't see us having any trouble with UK.
We will win out if we get this one. I think the team can do it, but it is really a mental game. We will really have to play flawless football to get out of there with a W.

I really felt our defense did not respect the VA QB. We didn't blitz enough and their RB got a lot of yardage on 1st down. If Pitt has a great WR, we either need to get to the QB or play zone. Our guys seem to get beat in one on one match ups.

This is going to be another great game between PITT and L'Ville. PITT has started to integrate Whitehead (FROSH) on offense, and it's already starting to make a significant difference. Whitehead is extremely quick coming out of the backfield, and certainly not afraid of contact; leading the PITT D in tackles on the year. PITT's defense is much-improved over last year's unit, with the hire of Narduzzi and Conklin (DC).

I'm really interested to see how Maddox and Pittz play against the bigger WRs that L'Ville has. Moddox is extremely quick and tenacious, but at 5'9" larger receivers definitely have the advantage. Too early in the week to throw a prediction into the ring, but I'll be back later.

If our D fails to show up for an entire game (like this past week), then we lose. We have a great D, but if they take drives off, it doesn't matter how great they are. We need a complete effort from them the entire game.

Even if our D does show up, I don't yet trust our offense to be able to win this game. We've shown stretches of decent football, but I am not yet convinced it isn't because of the weaker D's we've faced the last two weeks, compared to previous games this season.

Bottom line --- if we play a complete game, on all sides of the ball ... we MAY squeak out a victory. If we don't play a complete game, I wouldn't be surprised if we lose by 10 points.

They just whipped Duke. Looks to me like they're still getting better. Gonna be tough to win on the road. We need a complete game to win.
This is going to be an awesome game. Pitt's 3 losses are to teams that are a combined 28-2. 3 of Louisville's 4 losses are to teams that are a combined 28-2. These are two of the better teams in the ACC. It's a cross division matchup that won't be played again for another 6 years. I look for a close game that goes down to the wire.

Looking at the numbers, Louisville has a slight edge defensively, as well as offensively. Now, the numbers don't tell the tale, but they help paint a picture:

Total Offense: Louisville 64th
Pitt 84th

Total Defense: Louisville 14th
Pitt 26th

Given our inconsistencies on offense, the game is likely to be a slobber-knocker. Points will probably be hard to come by, unless the Cards break out on offense. The defense needs to show up, too. A score of 14-13 wouldn't shock me. It could go either way.

Could be another Wake Forest Type of game...For either team!!!

Does the PITT QB scramble and run it if needed? Or is he more of a pure pocket passer?
More of a pocket passer that uses his legs to buy time in the pocket. However, if you leave the field wide open, he will run and pick up yards. He's not the fleetest of foot, but I seem to remember him picking up a 15-20 yard gainer against the Tar Heels on a play that wasn't designed for him to run the ball.

Side note, based on the current ACC scheduling, we don't play at PITT again for 10 years. That's true of every team outside of our division except Virginia. Every 5 years, we play a team at home, then 5 years later, on the road. These are the road games not to miss. Next year, our only odd game is Duke at home. Go Cards, Ellen

I think that Pitt was s more natural cross-division rival than virginny. We used to play them every year in the BE. Before they deliberately conspired to destroy that league.

That was at the DIRECTION of E-SPIN...The Panther President has the EMAIL PROOF of it...Spitt and Suc-A-Cuse took the bait and STABBED the Big East In The Back!!!

I'm in agreement with those saying Pitt will be tough to beat. It's these games that you gotta get,the one's you're not supposed to.
