Updated Preseason Top 25 with Blackshear/UF News:

Those are some very high expectations from a Top-35-ish team that returns everyone and will be relying a lot on a bunch of new (and mostly young) faces. I hope the guys regroup and get a tougher mentally during the offseason because that toughness can't be led by the new guys. I hope all of these polls are right, but my expectations for year 2 are a Top 25 team.
 
Since all the other top teams lost all their star players to the NBA draft it is a matter of who is left standing on the court. I don’t want to get over confident because of the toughness of our conference but I think we are a top 10 team.

I think the votes come from people that "know" what the Cards have as the cornerstones of the team, pretty much. Returning a proven guy that averaged 17&7 is a pretty big deal.

Other teams will be better, but it's hard to put a finger on who those teams will be.

There is no Zion in this year's FR class.

Yeah, the Cards have new players, but they are joining a team returning 3 starters and a key reserve - the new players will have roles but voters know who the Alpha is here.

I'd put the Cards back end of top 10, I think they got a good team for sure.

Another year of adjusting to Mack’s system will be extremely beneficial to the returning players. They know what to expect, and what’s expected of them. For the new guys, they were recruited by Mack, and understand his style of play and how they will mesh with the existing lineup. Very exciting times for us ahead. If we can step up our defense, and have consistent ball handling, we are a final four team.

Nothing I like more than seeing lofty expectations for basketball. Appears that anything less than a Final Four will be disappointing. I'm good if that's the bar everyone else is setting.

And I'm dead sure next basketball season will go a long way toward fixing our money problems. Let's also make that our expectation...

I don't care about all the drama and money talk but I do see you as being pretty even keel with Mack.

I agree. I think fans want to expect a big season. If we weren't fans then we wouldn't. I like Mack enough but I'm interested to see how he does.

I wasn't a Pitino fan but he did win 'enough'. Calipari ate him for breakfast and that was awful. He also didn't do as well as he was paid IMO. 2013 never happened so we have what; 2 8's and a FF still standing? TJ paid him way too much imo. Should've been a 4-5Mill coach.

Record books or not i saw 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 happen. McGee being an idiot doesnt change that.

Did anyone set a final four as the bar? Being hyped about a year and making final 4 or bust expectations arent the same thing unless you are hoping to be able to be disappointed

That's funny, I still have hats, t-shirts, pictures, and other stuff that has 2012 and 2013 printed all over them. I'm pretty sure it happened. IDC what trivial ruling the NCAA put out there. They can't take my stuff or my memories. It happened.

I was there, they can erase their bs books all they want. But when the confetti came down and we became national champs, it was solidified. **** the ncaa.

#2 seems a bit high given the question marks we have. But, maybe we do look that good if you compare to the competition. I'm not that familiar with what everyone else has.

We do have one of the best players in the country coming back, and I believe his surrounding cast is stronger this year than last year. Also, the ACC should be down a bit, giving an opportunity to move up. A Sweet 16 run with a chance to go further seems reasonable.

I’m fine with the ranking. Every year SuCk and Duke reload and are ranked at the top. Usually unproven but yet their right at the top with completely new teams. This year we’re returning some pretty good players and bringing some in. So ride the wave our brands out there and it only helps recruiting.

Completely agree with you there. I think these early rankings are a bit high but some positive publicity in the media, anything to get the media talking about the up & coming Cards and the exciting new coach are all great things that can only help moment/recruiting.

I do hope folks show patience and aren't ready to FARRRR THAT SONOFABEYITCH MACK if this year's team initially looks a lot like last year's in terms of skill/performance. Last year's team had some toughness issues, and this year's team will be those same guys with some very good young talent. I do think they'll start rolling in February.

I remember when the American Conference was going to be called "The American Twelve." There were all these rad memes floating around with rednecks on them wearing jorts & drinking shitty beer, saying stuff like:

"Only got 8 teams? Don't matter, this is 'Murica!"

"Hell yeah man, Murican' Twaylve!" *big thumbs up

On paper I think you could argue Louisville might have the most talented roster in the country. They return 6 of their top 7 and bring in at least 2 impact Freshman. Like every other team in the country I think it will take time to figure out the rotations and who/what/where but I really like this roster especially if Aiden can play meaningful minutes and if Perry has improved as much as people say.
