I don't see how we can compete with them or the team down the road without competing with them in recruiting. Frustrating, even Auburn and Mississippi State are recruiting at a higher level with future classes than we are.

Been my gripe since going to the ACC you willl be labeled as a troll 1-2-3-4 get ready! Anybody with any since knows you need really great players to consistently compete on their level. Screw the developing crap . To me thats like taking the the route around the corner to get home instead of the stright down the street route. Shortess distance to a point is a straight line ! Just by the sound of your post, you seem disappointed with the recent results of recruiting. Since this program has been very successful especially in the last 4 or 5 years, I fail to see the problem you see with recruiting.

I agree. UofL has been on one of its best stretches of basketball success ever these last few years. I could somewhat understand the OP's argument more if, say, the Cards had been getting bounced in the first or second round of the NCAAT and having sub-par seasons every year but we haven't.
Final Four, Championship, S16, Elite 8. That's pretty damn good and a ton of schools would trade for those results in a heart beat.
Okay guys that's totaly understandable but moving forward with this crap looming and the uncertanity of who will be our coach next season! A very serious discussion with that issue will be on the horizon. We do need to recruit a higher level athlete in the future to copete with Dukes ,Nc types

We have won a recent title. If you want the top guys who are by and large selfish me1me4 types go cheer for a team full of them. We have something special here and I only want players that get it.
Heck seems our philosphy has produced alot of the players with the me first let's not go down that road with our program . For what ever reason Duke,Uk etc seem to be getting the elite guys with out player issues. And i don't have any problem saying that about other programs. Sometimes you have to look in the mirror at yourself and except flaws. Constructive critisim and it is warranted

And I also was blind to Crums last years. Yes I was one that was in denial of Crums lack of recruiting in the end also.And supported everything he did was very blind that the players he was bringing in wasn't gonna get it done with the changing times. Well guy guess what times are changing players want to be one and done.
Well watch and see you will be one of the first ones whining and crying about why we can't ever win the ACC.

What would be you guys take on this team be without two 5th year transfers? Why are we in need of having these two players ? Why are they the best players on this team? Your all correct recruiting under Rick is GREAT!!!!!
Because we're a normal college team. We're not some feeder system. Kind of corrupts everything about the sport imo! Didn't used to be that way, but guess some guys want it to be that way nowadays. I'm sure everything is on the level.

One interesting aspect of taking 5th year transfers is that you only have them for one year, guaranteed. At least with stud recruits, there is a chance they may stay longer (e.g., Jones, the twins, etc.). I constantly hear about how UK fans never get to know their players, but taking a 5th year transfer is the same thing. I understand the argument that they are true students because they are graduating or have graduated (though if they were better players, they wouldn't still be in college), as opposed to one and dones that leave school after one year, but from a basketball team perspective, you only have them for a single year guaranteed.Because we're a normal college team. Shawn, you guys turn your roster over yearly, except for the two Kentucky boys and the walkons. If that's what you like then good for you, most of our fanbase would prefer three and four year players. I wouldn't mind a one and done kid, but not a whole team of them every year.
Per Evan Daniels, over the last three seasons Duke has landed prospects ranked: 1,1,3,3,9,11,12,15,17,22,22 & 40. Last season they won the National Championship. They have positioned themselves for more runs at the title, they are now in our conference. The bar has been set extremely high, we must recruit at a higher level. Coaching only takes you so far, gotta have the studs to cut down the nets.

Just google the E8 game when we destroyed them a whole couple years ago. That will show you.
They are the top program in the country. We've beaten them multiple times in March on the way to two of our three titles.

If you'd like to have a top player fine, we get it. I know we all would like that now and then for sure. But we're getting the results in the end you're griping about not getting.

I think this freshman class is one of if not the best Pitino has had. Mitchell and Adel will get minutes from day 1. Spaulding after a year of getting stronger has the potential to be a 1st round draft pick. VJ King in the next class is a high school AA
We are right back in familiar territory where most everyone is overlooking the Cardinals this year. Not preseason ranked is hilarious to me but that will fix itself soon enough. It seems like this program is always fighting for national respect and that's OK. I like it when the team is P.H.D. Poor, Hungry, and Driven to succeed.

This is a great philosophy that I'm fully on board with, but it just doesn't apply to Louisville recruitiing lately.
