Because that's the furthest thing from my mind. I mean, we lost by 18 points. If the score were like 35-31, and we had a chance to win, ok, maybe. I don't care that we beat the spread. I'm just thrilled the team looked way more prepared than last year. In fact, that's all we could have really asked for at this point.
Does anyone consider Monday's performance a "moral victory?"

So yes, by that definition. It was a moral victory but to me the most important thing was the gritty, and smartly coached way that our guys competed all game against a better team.
All most fans want is for the players and coaches to give as much as they have to the program each game. Our guys certainly did that last Monday. Last year not so much. With this coaching staff, we can now look forward to each game.

No, of course not. We don't do moral victories. We got beat and beat by more than 2 scores. The only thing good to come out of the loss was the effort. As UofL fans, we have been starved of effort. The game against Notre Dame was the first game in the last 10 where we got effort. That's not a win and it sure isn't a moral victory but it was a welcomed sight. In order to get wins, effort has to be present, and with this coach we will get effort which means wins will follow. Real wins. I am excited about the season all because of the effort from game 1.
I would not call it a moral victory but it was a reason for optimism. We can put on the front that this is Louisville and we dont celebrate losses but that completely ignores what happened last year and where we are as a team.

Fans are just happy to see the team play with chemistry and purpose. Kids competed with enthusiasm and kept fighting despite being down against a tough opponent. There's no victory in a loss but there's room for improvement if players willing to work at it.
After last season, yes Monday was a moral victory. We lack the depth this year, but we aren’t going to be an easy victory for anyone not named Clemson.
People can talk around moral victories and yes moral victories are for losers but they were 2-10 last year. We're all glad they looked like they wanted to be there and the defense was hitting people with enthusiasm. You have to start somewhere.

Yes. I don't believe in moral victory's but when your program was 2-10 and on the brink of disaster, playing your first game with a new coach against a program that finished 12-0 in the regular season the year prior. Hell yes! We lost by 18 pts yes, but if you watched that game you saw a team that had more first downs, had a better third down percentage, won the rushing battle and had more fire and grit. I'm not one who believes we have a depth issue outside of the Offensive Line, but I also saw a team fighting until the final buzzer. If I feel much better about my team after an 18 point loss than I did before, it was a victory. Classify it how you want, I fear no opponent on our schedule after that game. Our strength has flipped from WR to RB and running the ball and we all know if you can run the ball you can control the game.

45-7, then we follow that up with a boring overtime win against Western 9-6 on Blanton Creque’s 3rd fg of the game and WKU outgains us in yardage by 100.
A win is what matters but I bet most of us would be grumbling all week as opposed to how they felt after the ND game. Unfortunately it’s all about perception and expectations with fans.

First off I wanted to apologize I'm not trying to hijack a thread but didn't want to start a new one just for this so...Just wanted to let you all know how much that me and the family enjoyed the game Monday night and how great it was getting to meet all you wonderful Card fans before hand. Can't wait for tomorrow night GO CARDS!!!

That scenario could happen, and I would still be OK with it as long as the effort is there. The scoreboard always looks better when the Cards score more than the opponent. It always will but effort means a lot too and just having the effort last Monday night was nice to see.
we put the ball on the ground 5 times, dropped 4 (at least) passes...I'll consider it a moral victory if we learned anything from that game and stopped with the poor handles...I know the term is often shunned, I don't mind failure as long as we learn from it. I will say that effort is expected, and that there is no moral victory in that sense. So I'm gonna say, I'll let you know if there was a moral victory after tomorrow.

Any program that is rebuilding have to grab the positives. A loss is a loss but was it a better production? In many ways yes and in some ways no. This game boiled down to QB play against a good defense, the QB play wasn’t good enough. Everything else was better than expected.
There is no reason not to be satisfied with the performance. We all have watched enough football to know this is a week to week evaluation. We also know if QB play doesn’t improve the rebuild process won’t be fast.

I don't buy 'moral victories' BUT.... that game was lost with the best play I've seen out of this team in at least a year and maybe even back farther.
BP was riding off the rails LJ's heisman year imo. The year later was bad then the collapse.
Monday they played the game. Haven't seen that in a while. Good on Satterfield and I think that guy is going to win once he gets a few classes in. Same as Mack. These dudes want it.
