What do you all think about CSS not taking the FG and going for it passing on 3 points in the 2nd quarter?

Next, the apparent TD pass into the end zone getting picked off at the very last second by the off defender in the end zone on a momentum changing excellent play on the ball by the Cuse defense? What impact did that one play have on the team? I saw MC walking off the field with head down after that pick...you guys see it too?

Would a score 17-10 or 17-17 at the half have made a difference in the players and their frame of mind and confidence coming out at the start of the 2nd half receiving the ball?

I thought they came out and played poorly on that first possession and the Cuse's confidence swooned and they in turn just kicked our ass in every way possible on a deflated UofL team. Sad to say but true to me.

What should the staff have done differently at that point in the game?

Staff has a lot to work on this short week or UCF will hand them their ass too. How do you get the Mojo back for the Cards? What would you do other than fire everybody? Seriously as that is not an option fiscally.

Does anyone think that QB2 Domann should start the UCF game to shake MC up in aiding him get his Mojo back? or is that a bad idea too? After all MC had the worst PFF rating on the entire offensive side?

What say you guys?

Hindsight’s 20/20. I don’t recall factoring a lot of pros and cons at the time. But I also don’t recall think WTF when the decisions were made.

I only recall questioning the read-option play on the 4th down that Malik ran up the middle. Lamar with his unique abilities could pull that off…

That is all you got for all the questions that were put forth?

How long do you wait after the game or play to do any analysis of what you just observed?

Trying to spur some fruitful discussion and get past all the whining and draconian POV's that have occurred today.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated as you are an astute fellow Card fan.

I didn't feel compelled or equipped to comment on every question, and I wasn't disrespecting you or your questions. My remarks were primarily about the in-game decision-making.

I hear way too much criticism on that part of the game (decision-making) once fans have the benefit of seeing the results. The coaches don't get that opportunity.

And as I said, I didn't see much on that front except for the Malik read-option I mentioned that left me scratching my head.

We definitely didn't execute, and we probably didn't try to stretch the field enough. But if pass coverage was good and the line wasn't giving you enough time for pass plays to develop, I'm not sure what the QB and coaches are supposed to do...

^ Maybe call some fast quick hitters, slants , draw plays, screen plays, jet sweeps etc. etc.

Pretty much most of last nights and todays posts are all after the fact...that is what we do on message boards is it not?

TY for your input...I do value your ideas and thoughts.

Was fine with UofL going for it but I had little confidence we would punch it in after the penalty. I was really pissed we went with a long snap count on 2nd down. Supposedly we have a good o-line and we have good running backs. Snap the damn ball, man up on the o-line and run it in for a touchdown. The false start penalty was a killer and was totally unnecessary.

The INT in the end zone was an amazing play by their safety. Definitely a gut punch but sometimes you just gotta tip your cap to the other guy. I’d love to us have some defensive players make some plays. We play so slow on defense it is mind-blowing.

Malik is QB1. Douman seemingly barely beat out Conley who was god awful last year. If you take out Malik we might as well fire Satt because we will assuredly lose the team if he comes out.

You answered your own question. This right here. Run something nobody’s seen on video. Btw,I was fine with them going for it too. Not sure if a field goal would’ve changed the psyche of players or not.

Maybe so maybe not. After further thought about it, I am curious as to how the team would respond to that change???

MC is not irreplaceable no matter how much we all would like to think he is. It may be a case of addition by subtraction...the OL would be more comfortable in holding the line knowing QB2 is not going to run at first stress in the rushing attack. Run game may be better too, IDK, just spit balling the idea.

That plus getting a TD vs the interception is what I am pointing out. Had to affect the O in a less than positive manner.

It was zipp's question. That was my answer to him.

We played much too slow all night long. We cannot simply take our time and allow the opposition to gear up their defense. I'm more disappointed in CSS now than ever before and I'll admit to supporting him pretty much for the past 4 seasons. We were a very poorly coached football team last night across the board. There better be some very real improvement for our next game.

GO CARDS!!!

My bad. Thought I was killing two birds with one stone 😂 on your op.
Seriously though, vanilla offense is driving me crazy. Defenses are prepping to disrupt our Qb and we just seem to never do things offensively to disrupt the defense.

If FSU would have kicked the fg early in their game it wouldn’t have come down to 1 point so yes I believe you take points when they are available.
I told my son that other than the half back pass we hadn’t thrown long the entire game. Then when we finally establish a good drive eating them up on the ground and short passes they decide to throw long and it backfired.

This is a game that I can honestly blame the coach for the decision making. He got frustrated and forced things, and as a result we got blown out. We should have kept pounding the ball right at that team, and made them pay for having a much smaller defensive front than we have an offensive line.

Our defense played significantly better in the second half, and could have pitched a shutout had we not given Syracuse short fields twice due to turnovers. Had Scott not gotten frustrated and continued to pound the ball, perhaps we win it something like 24-20.

And having said that, the decision to go for it down 17-7 was the first sign that our coach was frustrated and was starting to force the issue. Take the 3 points there to get it back within one score.

Even though I agree with your premise I also believe our readiness to play must come into the discussion. We, obviously, were not ready to play and that is totally unacceptable and is the blame of the head coach and his staff.

The HC made the decision to not take the 3 pts for FG...to get to 10.

The HC called the play for the not to be TD pass intercepted in the end zone.

The HC made the decision to defer on the starting K Off. Allowing the Cuse to set the tone for the game on Offense...as if the Cards defense was the teams strong point. It is not.

Cuse QB was spurred on by his 1st Qtr success and the Cards looked dazed, confused and struggled to stop the MO that that QB had. Schraeder continued to shred the D. Defense now on their heels and little offense to counter the MO, and TofP lifted Cuse confidence and Cards went from bad to worse snowballing into the abyss of defeat. Game could have developed differently of the score was tied going into the half. We will never know for sure.

My first two points on the FG and the interception set the tone for this game right before our eyes..

Instead of 17-10 or 17-17 and being in the game, and starting second half with the ball it was 17-7...Cards 'O' was still not clicking getting stopped on that first drive. Ballgame. Cuse dominated the rest of the 2nd half.

Team did not play with the belief that they could win. I don't know why.

UCF on a short week for a Friday game in a game that they (UCF) really wants to win is going to be a really stiff challenge for a team coming off a bad defeat....and even off of a W.

If the Cards can make a strong showing by winning the game it will salvage some pride and possibly make a statement they are to be taken seriously in the ACC. Loss and ??? idk

Going into the FSU game at home, who will have a bye week to prepare, with a chip on their shoulder and revenge in their eyes, it would be much better for the Cards at 1-1 than 0-2. But what do I know? FSU could blow out the Cards or go down in a slugfest of red beating that butt. FB can be a strange game on why a team wins or loses.

If Cards get blown out and/or quit on the staff...then all bets are off and serious evaluation needs to take place on the staffs status from top to bottom.

So much emphasis was put on keeping Malik in the pocket over the spring and summer I have to wonder if we didn’t totally handcuff Malik and force him to play a game that doesn’t take advantage of his talents. If I’m the OC (and maybe I should be), I’d build in more RPOs for Malik and give him the freedom to take off if a window is there. For the rest, give the ball to the RB and let the OL do the work. Also, I still see very little or no short 6-8 yard passes that allow the receivers to work for YACs. Right now, it seems like we only run the zone stretch or take a shot over the middle. Both, easy enough to defend when you know what is coming.
