Deng to NBA talk needs to stop

I stand by my statement. Improve during the season and devote the offseason to work on his handle and then....maybe

I don’t think he can handle the ball well enough to play in the league. When he gets in traffic, he looks like a 12 year old trying to dribble. That won’t fly in the NBA.
Yes he needs to improve his handle, but he will, and his potential is why they will draft him.

He is not an NBA player today but he as potential. There aren't many 6'6" NBA small forwards that don't have really good ball skills and shoot pretty well. He can't create his own shot and isn't a great shooter off the pass. Athletically he could play at that level. He really doesn't have good basketball instincts either which shows up on defense.

If the Jackson kid from North Carolina was selected 15th, that isn't good news for Deng because he isn't anywhere to close to him as a player.

I would like to see Adel rebound a little more and get more physical. His scoring is doing well. Averaging about 15 points a game, but only 3.4 rebounds a game with a average of 1.2 fouls a game. NEEDS to be more aggressive defensively.

Pro game is a lot different than the college game - the spacing is much different, the defensive rules also aren't the same. Some players excel unexpectedly, and others suck unexpectedly.

When I take a close look at Adel, I see a guy that has the size to be a SG in the NBA, or maybe even a SF in some instances. But he really appears to lack the shooting range to play at those positions, and he's not a lock down defender at all.

And, as others have mentioned, his handles are highly suspect. It's an indictment on somebody - either him, or the staff, that at this juncture of his career, he's struggling so much with basic ball handling skills.

My guess is Adel has a decent career overseas if he has a good work ethic.

I think people believe ball handling can be a developed skill. To some extent that is true but elite ball handlers are rare. Deng left hand isn't average it is terrible. He has had a lifetime to develop his left and hasn't been able to do it. I am sure he has worked his butt off but that skill has developed. He doesn't even need to be thinking NBA at this point.

He needs to recognize his limitations and avoid, as much as possible, situations where those limitations are necessary. Do what you do the best and eliminate the rest.

He’ll play 10 years in Australia. If Russ can’t make a roster scoring 30 a game then a guy like Adel who doesn’t rebound or play defense won’t either.

I hope DA makes a boatload in the NBA. And the fact he might is why I never watch the NBA...

I think you hit the nail on the head here.

He's got tools to have an all around game, but honestly is just sort of taking an easy way out with what he's trying to do out there.

I think he plays hard, he's just channeling everything to being the go to guy offensively, trying to lead by example via scoring. He's not doing the dirty work that it appeared he was going to display when he entered the program. He was a rdecent perimeter defender in limited minutes after his injury as a Fr.

Some players mature quicker than others. The clock is ticking on him - he's going to play pro ball somewhere, but at the rate he's going it will be overseas or the developmental league.

Darrell Griffith spent the whole summer before his Sr yr dribbling around chairs and such in Crawford.

It took him from a leaper, to a player..

Today they just want to shoot 3's, and dunk.

I just want to see him go to war more in the paint and find the guy that's open when they collapse on him.

Adel will be gone after this season to the draft. He may get drafted in second round, he may not. Either way he will end up in D league to begin with, if he can improve his dribbling he may make an active roster in the NBA.

I have never seen Adel as more than a D leaguer -- I hope I am wrong and he makes me eat my words, I have just never understood what the NBA hype around Deng was all about.

Our most promising NBA prospect, and it isn't even close, is Ray.

Not sure why everyone automatically assumes if they can’t or don’t make the NBA, they are destined to the D League. Adel is a foreign born player and could actually sign a contract in Australia making six figures or more. That’s his fallback. I wish I had that problem.

Agree, of course he has the option to play internationally, could very well make him happier anyhow. I was just saying from the view of playing here in the US. If I had opportunity to play pro ball I would play in any country that would take me :)
