"After a comprehensive review of the men's basketball program, and with the support of President Hatch and University leadership, I have determined that it is time for a change in our head coaching position,'' athletic director John Currie said in a statement.

The Demon Deacons never finished above .500 in the ACC under Manning, who had a 14-42 conference record over the past three seasons. Last season, they went 13-18 overall and 6-14 in the ACC, finishing in a tie for last in the conference standings.

Wake Forest finished 12th or worse in the league in five of Manning's six seasons.

great players usually, but not always, make terrible coaches. can anyone name any on the college level? pro's are different

No surprise it was just a matter of time I have no idea who they will go after but it better be the right fit this time. We have one of their former coaches I wonder if they will target him?

I don't know what kind of turnover they have had since Dino coached there but... they only gave him 3 years as a HC, he made the NCAAs 2of3, they canned him after they lost in the 2nd round. They basically treated him very poorly.

They get Beilein and they’re going to become not just an ACC player, but a national player. A lot of great talent in the Carolinas and we know he’s an elite coach.

I think he’s who they want but the dude is fairly old.

Oh surprise, surprise! Outstanding player, very, very mediocre coach. But he’s walking away a wealthy man.

NC State, Wake, Clemson, and SC seem to be all in that space fighting to be right behind Duke and UNC.

Those jobs are great, but have a downside. The entire Carolina area is great recruiting ground. But, the 2 top programs get the best guys and then you have the Blue Bloods also coming in taking talent.

You have to compete in the ACC (not SC) every year and fan support is hit or miss depending on wins. Those schools sometimes get lucky, but usually they have to go for an up and coming assistant or a good mid major type and hope they get the right one.
