Cutter Boley Starting For Uk

We should consider that has a huge advantage; first start for a freshman is tuff assignment.

Last year Pitt kicked our ass with their backup and FSU beat us in ACC championship game with a horrible backup.
We were beating the hell out of Jordan Travis and knocked him out two years ago...and Tate Rodemaker proceeded to eat us up. Of course we were also privileged to watch Caleb Williams opt out of the Holiday Bowl only to see Miller Moss look like the 2nd coming of John Elway.

I will add one more though it is more anecdotal...we knocked Jeff Speedy out of the 1st game of the Governor's Cup and it was Antonio O'Ferrall who they won with. Our issue that night was less QB play though they did score on something of a lucky deep ball; we turned it over four times.

I think Miller Moss just threw another TD

All I remember is a young David Akers (from Tates Creek high) missing two fairly easy FG's on our way to losing the inaugural Gov Cup.

As I am sure you know Hack but others may not, Akers went on to a very long career in the NFL and is currently the all-time leading scorer for the Philadelphia Eagles. Sixteen seasons overall, 12 with Philadelphia, 1 with Washington, 2 with San Francisco and 1 with Detroit.

But those two missed FG's haunt me.

Trivia .... Akers' son is a punter for Northwestern. If he plays, he's probably pretty busy.

Pitts backup last week didn't do well. We need to send it on this kid!! Knock him around early and he will be hearing footsteps!

UK has three (3) QBs available to play this Saturday, and Stoops has demonstrated a willingness to pull the starter if he senses any ineffectiveness from his starter.

Texas, has expected beat UK rather soundly, but the Longhorns were not nearly as sharp as most expected in Austin; their fans were looking ahead to their rival came against A&M this weekend and some believe so were the UT players.

Stoops and Sarkisian are good friends and it was evident that Stoops was far less animated during that loss than normal, and it appeared to those UK fans who follow the Cats that UK players were comfortable losing the contest based on their post game admiration expressions for Texas.

What does this have to do with our match up this Saturday? I could be wrong here, but I believe that Stoops, his staff and his players went to Austin with little expectation of winning, and this is the first time that Stoops and his Seniors will be preparing for a game knowing there is no chance of post season Bowl game. I will go ahead and say it now ……. UK “packed it in” after the 4 consecutive losses to Vanderbilt, Florida, Auburn and Tennessee.

Admittedly, UK is huge up front defensively, and they remain a formidable opponent, and I am not suggesting that they could not prevail Saturday. However, I do not expect to the seeing the same UK team any where close to the one that played UGA even, and beat Ole Miss earlier in the season. If Jeff opens up the playbook offensively from start to finish, I expect we will win by 2 to 3 TDs.

They have to make him uncomfortable in his reads and in the pocket. Disguising what they are doing then not confusing themselves isn’t likely.

Stoops plays this game entirely differently than any other game. He is loose and more aggressive.

I will not be surprised if they score more than they have all year.

I’m not expecting much from the freshman quarterback who was the backup
to probably the worst starting quarterback in the SEC!
It’s not like he raised eyebrows against UT he played just as bad as Vanderpuff

Other than Pat White, I’m struggling to think of examples. What are other backups we’ve turned into heroes?
Last year in the bowl game. Miller Moss was Tom Brady out there for USC.

But there's been no one like Pat White and it's why he's the easiest to remember. But I recall several times since him where we were beaten by replacement QB's, most so unremarkable I can't remember their names.

Yarnell started the game before against Clemson and threw for 350 yards. He was banged up though and purportedly didn't take a snap in practice all week as Holstein was back as the QB.

So he doesn't really count as a seldom used nobody when he got in against Louisville. He played poorly because he wasn't fully healthy or ready to compete. A back up QB who's sore and didn’t practice and wasn't expecting to play, is not a good formula for success.

Of course, the reverse has been true, though only one example leaps to mind- Brock Bolin. I guess you could count Lamar, who was a backup at one point, coming in to look like an all-star. Hunter Cantwell maybe?

I sat with Dan for that game, and Kyle’s performance was as excellent as it was memorable. It sure made Uncle Dan so proud, and I can say that in my 60 years of attending UL football games, it is right there next to beating Florida in New Orleans. Amazingly, Dan and I went to that game together as well!

Two of the best times I've had in sports.
