Could Spalding play the "3" at all?

Wondering out loud, he sure seems to be a gifted athlete. I'm sure he's logged zero practice time @ the "3" and I like our rotation with Q/Trey/Lee/Mitchell/Adel - but with Adel out indefinitely I am curious if Rick could use him @ the "3" in stretches.

A front line of Spalding/Mitchell/Onuaku might be impossible to score on.

Probably not an option, but Spalding has given me reason to re-think this team and the rotations.

What's up with Adel? I didn't even notice him not in the game, until you just mentioned it.

Spalding would be a NBA 3, so playing the 3 now is not out of the question.

That would be a huge lineup of

Nanu-Jaylen-Ray.

Let's wait and see how he responds to better conpettiton alot of players have these type of games only to disappear and never be seen again. Granted his upside seems their.

It was clear that CRP was feeding the stud with the play of RS in the second half. JJ didn't have bad stats 6 pts 4 reb in 5 min., but he must have missed a defensive assignment.

In RP's post game he said JJ was simply had a bad matchup trying to cover the opponent's 3 pt shooter @ the 4 spot. So he was making it sound like JJ did nothing wrong at all.

Of course Spalding's play made it much easier for RP to follow through with the match up decisions.

Looked like RP nailed it Spalding did a lot of great things out there.

Jaylen's game worries me Okay now this kid has had a whole year to get acclimated and in shape. Should be looking and playing this season strong, but i haven't seen it. Makes me wonder is he really any good?

You really think that it's the norm that a PF with his frame should have the ability to guard smaller quicker shooters on the perimeter in man to man?

Hop, this team has a lot of versatile players and I'm 100% sure coach LOVES the possibilities. The best part is he will get to experiment during the cream puff portion of the schedule as he tries different combinations of players. It sucks that Adel is out hurt, because he is going to fall behind the learning curve now.

Spalding has been a pleasant surprise to me mainly because I take most everything coach Pitino says with a boulder of salt. He told us Spalding had the most potential of all the frosh, and I let that roll off my back like water off a ducks back. He wasn't giving us a line this time around. Spalding IS loaded with potential. His length really caught me off guard. I had no idea he was that long. He has a chance to be a very special player.

The athleticism and sheer foot speed of this team allows us a totally seamless, almost effortless, switching defense. Playing man to man also creates far better defensive rebounding circumstances. Jaylen Johnson may not be as quick as Ray Ray, but he is an awesome ball handler, guards the inbounds pass with length and surprising speed himself and both Ray and JJ are excellent in the press. The other guy you want in on a press is Mitchell. He is fearless, defensively and strong as an ox. I think Spalding is actual sort of incredible in his anticipation, which gets him to potential shooters with an edge in timing. Seems to have a high basketball IQ - for the record, btw, as does Johnson.

Johnson is going to have to learn to dunk and go up strong. I;m afraid we may see these lessons play out in real time against tall, talented teams. But donlt get down on him. This guy will be a most serious player, imo.

I have always been a JJ fan and I'm happy to hear his lack of minutes against NF was more situational than a slam on his overall game.

Truth is, JJ played really well. Ray just showed the level of play that was a notch above that, in the end. He made it impossible for Rick to sub him out - even considering stamina issues (which Rick was pleasantly pleased with). For two youngsters, they make the 4 look like a keeper position going forward.
