I have noticed this season UofL is not using the color guard to present the American Flag for the National Anthem. Instead both teams are facing the West end of the arena where the flag is displayed at the rafters.
I have a few theories:
1) It’s a time issue. The color guard takes time to process in and off the court. The team lineups are next and maybe they don’t want much of a gap from the National Anthem and lineups.
2) The American flag is positioned in between the National Champion and Final Four banners. What better way to make your opponent have to look up and see the caliber of opponent they will be facing. Also for the Louisville players it’s a good reminder of the history of the program they represent.
