Coaching Staff Press Conference Today At Noon (Danny Manning)

I liked what Manning had to say and he seems like a pretty solid addition to the coaching staff.

So far Payne, Smith, and Manning all have Championship experience as players and coaches.

Matt is their anything we can do to stop the Manning hire? Maybe Cal should offer him Brusier's position. Matter of fact Cal could give Milt that position so we can get DJ locked up.

Not sure where the excitement is with any of the coaching hires including payne. What recruit has he gotten so far???

This kind of perspective is hard for me to understand.

He was wonderful at his opening press conference. He hired two legit assistant coaches. At this point why wouldn’t you be positive? Spitballing here but don’t you have to have assistant coaches to actually recruit players?

The next post after they land players will be “why is everyone hyped they haven’t won a game yet” and then they haven’t won a tournament game and then he only won 1 title.

Enjoy the moment for goodness sake.

The rebuilding of the cards won't happen overnight enjoy each step they take up the ladder

Danny was a great player unfortunately he wasn’t a great coach. I hope he is a good recruiter I’ll wait and see before I pass judgement. However like the poster above the only recruit we have so far is Mack’s.

So in other words...you are a front runner blue belly fan and now you want to claim Card fan hood because of the coaching staff???

Go away fake fan...All in as a Card fan or not at all...we don't need ya. Cats and Cardinals fight like hell...pick one or the other.

I've never really known any real UofL fan liking UK at all in men's basketball. There's been admiration and sometimes respect, but you can't live and breathe Cards hoops and not hold disdain for UK.

Fan apathy has been a term used these last few years regarding Card Nation. I’m a perfect example of that. I haven’t been to a basketball game in probably 6 years. That said, after Mack nearly killed all of what I had left, I received the news of the Payne hire like “whatever, hope it works.” Then Nolan got on board, and my interest piqued. When Manning joined, ok, we might be on to something, I thought. So much so that when I was in the parking lot of Total Wine in Saint Matthews a couple of hours ago, and saw Danny Manning stroll, ever so cooly, towards the sidewalk, I couldn’t help myself. I rolled down my window, shouted his name, and when he turned, I said “welcome to Louisville.” He seemed to get a kick of it. I totally fan geeked out, which is a positive sign. Excitement, for me, has been severely lacking.

Duke put a guy on staff that was a HC at Elon that make's Manning's resume look like Wooden. So what's the market on assistants? If we're being honest, not good. UNC staff is a couple former players and a dude nobody has heard of.

Manning did take Tulsa to an NCAAT for the first time in a decade. He did flop @ WF for sure. Did kinda what Pegues did here @ Maryland last year. Just bad situation. 6 years on the Kansas staff.

Maybe KP''s known DM for awhile. Looks like KP will hire guys he trusts. Let's just hope that works out better than some of the assistant's Mack just had, and a couple of those guys on Rick's last staff.

It's pretty clear there were a # of fans that wanted another HC and it's going to take more than staff news to start swaying those opinions. Some really wanted him, I believe majority were probably like you and I were, just kind of neutral on it all. Then there were quite a few that wanted somebody else. They ain't gonna just change their minds because he's hired.

He'll have to win games to change minds, and lots of them. A potentially good staff is just that, potential. Same goes for any players he signs. There were less than 10 T100 guys available out of HS when he got hired, he was never going to make noise there this year. Portal another story, waiting to see on that. Durant and Embiid aren't in the portal.

Do I think the staff is good news? Yes. I do. Do I feel some kind of movement going on here? Maybe, maybe I do.

People that didn't want Kenny? No. They aren't gonna feel it until they see wins.

As someone who wasn’t sold on KP being the best choice based upon lack of experience, I think that he’s done an excellent job with his first two picks as assistant coaches. He’s known both guys forever, and is clearly comfortable that they share his vision and approach to building the program by focusing on the needs and development of the players.

With all that said, it’s going to be about his win-loss record just in the same way as it would have been had UofL hired Gregg Popovich.

Ghost,
You seem to be a very reasonable, logical fan. What is your take on Nolan’s stepdad, Curtis Malone and now all this talk about WWW? Any concerns?

You had me at hello…

I honestly don’t know a lot about Curtis Malone other than - like WWW - he seems to be a polarizing figure. Given the relaxation of the rules pertaining to - let’s call it exactly what it is - paying players, I don’t have the same concerns as I might have had five years ago.

I’ll say this though - if there are concerns about WWW, etc, then logically there should be concerns about KP. After all, he was on the staff when all of the shady crap went down at uk.
