Coach Payne Speaks

UK fan here - I know you guys have mixed emotions about it and I don't blame you but sounds like he hit all the right notes in his introduction. I hope he finds success at every game he coaches except 1 team

For those wondering about who he keeps from this present squad . You got a snippet he stated he spoke with 3 young men and about their wants of the NBA and some expectations. Those 3 are Whithers,Dre,Ellis the rest of the squad are on sprng break somewhere.Sam and Whithers with some solid coaching are really strong starting blocks for a team they both have alot of talent.

As a person I like KP I think he is very humble, strong character, well connected and all around good person. I still have the same concerns as I did earlier and that is X’s and O’s during a game. I think he dodged the question regarding a coaching staff because he probably has already talked to several candidates.

I would like to say something to all our fans who keep saying our program no longer demands the attention it once did. During the press conference with KP you heard how many people in the sports industry ( people high up in the sports industry) told KP this was one of the biggest jobs in college basketball. You also heard Josh Heird say a lot of coaches across the country were interested in the job.

I also thought about the video we watched from the Baylor talk show trio who gave reasons why Drew would be hard for Louisville to lure him away from Baylor. They said it would cost too much money to get Drew and as of right now KP is making a million more a year than Drew.

Who is the white guy with the cane and who is wearing the BOSS shirt. It is really fun seeing these guys after all these years.

Very well said Koz! I did not hear KP’s intro, but one person in my office who I respect, told me it was quite impressive.

Just some unsolicited advice for RedFistFury; rather than challenging those who were not initially in favor of hiring KP, try a little humility and avoid admonishing those who may be slow to jump on this train. If Kenny recruits like so many expect, he will quickly attract most all detractors, and then once he beats UK, he will become immortalized in this town.

He’s not a Cardinal fan - he’s a @REDFISTFURY3 fan.

When KP made his college choice to attend Louisville I was in Memphis at the time. I was watching the local news and Jack Eaton was the sports announcer, he was also play by play announcer for the Memphis Tigers. He said he had bad news for the Memphis Tigers and that the recruiting war for the services of Kenny Payne between Kentucky and Mississippi State were over. Kenny Payne has chosen Louisville he sighed and said the rich only get richer. “ Great Caesar’s Ghost”.

It is unfortunate for us that KP has been so quite over the years. He definitely won the new conference.

He did bare his sole in that news conference. A kid from MS that couldn’t read or write before coming to Louisville now has a degree and is a head coach of a top 5-10 program. He is also considered by many to be a wonderful human being. That is a story an amazing story.

We don’t know if this will work but they hired to right guy for this job.

I recall quite vividly that time period; UL went well beyond most programs in their effort to assist these young men overcoming their disadvantages.

Derek Smith arrived to campus in dire need of reconstruction of his jaw and teeth; UL Dental School invested a lot of time and talent getting his mouth realigned.

Sone had confused Derek’s reluctance to talk as shyness; nothing could have been further from the truth …..he was so sensitive about his speech, he avoided talking until the successful surgery changed his personality.

I went to the same church as an older couple who we acting as unofficial foster parents for Derek. This came up in conversation because I had recently had oral surgery and my jaw was wired shut for six weeks.

Wiley Brown and the prosthetic thumb.
When the 79 80 champs started their season they held their first red white scrimmage game at Charlestown High in Southern Indiana. Our high school coach was friends with Denny. During the game Wiley’s thumb came loos and he had to toss to a trainer in transition. Two years later my dad won the game ball, see my profile picture.
