What freaking offense does he run? Looks like a bunch of guys standing around
Have you ever heard of youtube? Go look at his teams at Xavier athletic long guys who can dribble put it on the floor and take it to the rim.And shoot from 5 spots, He had more talent to work with at X than this overall team. All the above which was devoid of this squad our shooting was inconsistent. What freaking offense does he run? Looks like a bunch of guys standing around
Agree. Believe me, I’m disappointed with today’s outcome but those who wish to attack Mack - give me a break! Mack is damn good and we’re lucky to have him. When he gets some studs in here things will be different, it won’t be long!Have you ever heard of youtube? Maybe, but maybe there were chemistry issues that plagued the team late half of the season. It's hard to overcome something like that late in the season. And he lost this team.
I agree with that. I also think King losing his confidence in his shot hurt the team too. To his credit, he continued to play hard, rebound well and play decent defense.IMO the day Sutton went into his funk is when the season ended. Don’t know what happened to him but he was a distant shell of himself the last third of the season. If he could have remained consistent the season could’ve been much different.

Coach Mack is a really good coach who will only coach better as he gets better talent. He was limited this year with what he could do as a coach. Next year WILL be better.
Freshman year he looked like he was going to be a serious scorer before it was over.King previously had confidence in his shot? When was that?
I said the same thing to one of my buddies during the game. They played like they wanted to go home.
King previously had confidence in his shot? When was that?
Last year or the year before that? IDK.King previously had confidence in his shot? When was that?
They were never the same after the Duke collapse. If the freshman coming in are as good as advertised and with the people who should be returning I would think sweet 16 would be a realistic goal.Mack's a good coach. I like him, but he's not a great coach--at least not yet.
And he lost this team. They looked more like dead men walking the last month or so than ten guys with heart and a common purpose.
You HOPE most of it was roster related. You start finding out now...
He had the one good game against Virginia but he never was a solid contributorFreshman year he looked like he was going to be a serious scorer before it was over.
I’m concerned that I don’t really see where he makes in game adjustments. In fact at halftime, they asked him if he was going to adjust to their 3 pt shooting and he said no. Going to stay with our game plan. This team had more ability than I thought it did coming into the year. We saw it with our own eyes. But it says something about players who play the way this group did down the stretch.
And it says something about a coach who couldn't (or wouldn't) do anything about it...
Examples are he never tried Enoch and Williams at the same time. Or he never had Sutton, Nwora and King on the floor.I really don't think he had the players to make adjustments. I also think the personality of this team changed after the Duke loss.
IMHO they are lacking an inside post presence both offensively and defensively. It was a weird mix of players skills which made adjustment pretty tough. The ideal lineup would have gone bigger with Sutton, King and Nwora the 2nd half strictly from a defensive perspective.
The glaring holes in the team were a legit 2G and SF. He really had no options. Ideally King fills Sutton spot and Sutton slides into 2G. Size wise Fore and Ryan M are point guards but neither had those skills, Bigger guards that were skilled shot right over them with confidence.
That is why I think they badly need a grad transfer PG next year splitting time with Perry. Then get a legit PG in the 2020 class. That would allow DJ to be a 2G and Williamson to play the 3.
Well, that’s a head scratcher. If you think our post play is adequate you’re nuttier than I originally thought. The only glaring talent deficiency this team had/has IMO is someone backing up Cunningham. And that problem continues into next season.
Otherwise, there were guys on this team who had the ability to fill their roles. For various reasons, most of them simply didn't get it done the last six weeks of the season; and for a couple of them, that went on the ENTIRE season...
Most teams in this country would gladly take two guys like Enoch and Williams and try to make centers out of them. Hell, many of our prior teams would have. Otis George was the backup center on a freaking Final Four team.Well, that’s a head scratcher. If you think our post play is adequate you’re nuttier than I originally thought.
This team rarely got easy buckets from the post and only Williams offered any semblance of being a rim protector. But in your eyes we’re a different team with a back up point guard? Wow, whatever.

That Pitino was "nutty"...![]()
Your too smart for pre-school man! Don't play on the short bus .Spin, spin, spin...blah, blah, blah...

This teams talent problem was not at the 5 or 4 offensively your rankings show offensive they were pretty good. The problem with 2 of the 3 is they were clueless on defense. The glaring talent issue at the beginning of the season was at the 1,2,3 spots. Run those rankings. All three of those players played terrific except against the elite teams or teams with bigger more athletic players those positions. It was glaring difference in those games. The only glaring talent deficiency this team had/has IMO is someone backing up Cunningham. And that problem continues into next season.

Enoch got benched because Mack stated he couldn't afford too lose him . Enoch was picking up fouls within the first 5 mins of gamesEnoch was solid offensively for sure vs Minny. His post D is not an = to his O.
Minny had a size advantage everywhere. The PG was 6-8 doing whatever he wanted. Their bad shooters were still shooting over guys shorter than them and both Minny bigs Murphy and Oturo played bully ball against their defender the entire game.
This UofL team had 0 post season experience and was stitched together literally over the summer.
As far as arm chair QBing things - I may have done a couple things differently in the season, and that probably would have lead the team to going to the NIT lol
I would have started Enoch. I get it, early in the year he wasn't overly motivated it seemed, but he did respond after losing his position and I always thought Malik was better served as an energy guy off the pine. If you establish Enoch early, he has the ability to put other bigs on their heels and forces the opponent to figure him out.
I also would not have played Sutton heavy minutes the entire year. I would have used King more. For all his problems, he did rebound the ball and probably warranted more PT.
End of the day they over-achieved. We will now move on to a more traditional recruiting class and see how Mack cultivates that group, and where the program goes. That is when we will begin to find out if we got the right guy or not.
