It starts today for Louisville women's basketball! They're at SEMO (South Eastern Missouri State) and the game is at 3 p.m. ESPN + will have the feed and radio coverage will be on 93.1 FM WTFX.
Five things I'll look for:
1) Small ball, fast ball. Walz has talked about this teams quickness and speed, so I'll look to see if that develops. I expect lot of fast-break, pressure defense, create the turnover and "go fast" ball from UofL and I'll pay particular attention to points off turnovers and points in the paint.
2) Who Will Start? I have no previous knowledge on this and it's purely a guess, but I'll go with Dana, Hailey, Kianna, Liz and Elizabeth. I expect to see a bunch of combinations and substitutions in the opener and a four-guard set for periods of time won't surprise me at all.
3) Boards. The Cards are pretty much expected to be a rebound-by-committee squad this year but I'll pay particular attention to how redshirt freshman Ramani Parker and true freshman Olivia Cochran and their height are used and if they'll be out there with Liz Dixon at times. I'm hoping, with a year's experience in Walz's system, Liz reverts to her freshman form. She is "the big" this year.
4) The Spark. We all know what havoc Kasa Robinson can create defensively and I'll look to see how much Walz uses her today. I'll also look to see how the shot looks for her, an area of concern last season.
5) The Smiths. (no, not the British band from the eighties) Ahlana and Kianna. Both have prior DI experience and both have been getting rave review from the Cards practice sessions. I will watch to see in what situations Walz uses them today and how they do with multiple lineup formations.
I'm excited and fired up, how about you? I'll recap it tomorrow.
