How awesome would it be to finish ahead of wake, BC and NC State, bro.

Don’t think it’s likely but not impossible. We’d have to have a big ass street party if that happens, bro.

Legit feel that we are going to struggle mightily this year but the increased discipline and football knowledge will keep us in some games, maybe even steal us some wins, bro.

Who voted Syracuse to finish first? LOL at that.

I'm guessing the logic was, "IF something goes wrong at Clemson, big injuries, suspensions or whatever... Syracuse won 10 games last year so they'd move up into the top spot. Syracuse lost by 4 at Clemson last year, and they host them this year. Crazier things have happened!"

These preseason picks seem to be based on laziness. "What did those teams do last year? Probably the same this year. We are geniuses."

I think we finish last. Our schedule sets up poorly. We play the top 2 teams in the Coastal. And we are at Wake, at FSU and at NC st. So our 3 most likely losses ND, Clemson and Syracuse are all home games. Realistically the only games we are favored are WKU and EKU. And the BC line will likely be under a touchdown. I have really, really low expectations for this season. Satterfield didn’t make me feel any better when he talked about the roster.

I've got a few of thoughts. 1) ACC coaches aren't familiar with Satt. They'll likely figure him out earlier than later, but we've got the element of surprise, to an extent. Coaches can easily watch App. St. film, but that's a different talent level. 2) If a thought-to-be good coach can come in and make a good team bad, ala Kragthorpe, then it's conceivable a new coach can take a bad team and make them instantly better. The team should be hungry, and, perhaps, certain opponents will overlook the Cards. Not exactly the mindset of a champion, I know, but that benefit does exist.

Now, I'm a realist. I know it's going to take time to get back on track, but I've got this feeling in my gut the Cards are going to be better than what everyone expects. Also, Satt's comments on the roster- he's a coach. A coach has multiple tasks. That includes sandbagging.

Some could argue that statement about App St talent level. Maybe in a couple of years. Really think last year’s team would have hung with Penn St.?

Not just App St talent level, but also their opponents. The ‘18 Cards team had talent. Plenty of it.

That is EXACTLY what they do, year after year, and they get paid for it. I guess in their defense, people won't read their articles if they do something like pick against Clemson. Even if they're eventually proven right, no one wants to read it right now because most people expect Clemson to have a cakewalk in the division if not the entire league.

I have no idea what's going to happen, but I think you're setting the right expectations. If you're wrong you'll be pleasantly surprised and feel like we're ahead of schedule. That feels a lot better than expecting 6-7 wins and ending up with 2-4.

Or he’s actually crapping on his roster in a public forum, because that’s what good coaches do.

There are precedents. A Coach would little serve either fans or his own longevity over-selling the talent he has inherited.

Most do it in a measured fashion, dropping reminders that there are a “few holes” in the roster. Some have said they have “some good chess pieces,” but are having the substitute a pawn for a missing rook, etc.

I know there are precedents. That’s why I said what I said previously.

I love coach Satterfield and I honestly believe the future is bright (especially if Chubba Purdy stays committed) but being picked last in the Atlantic this year is what I expect 95% of coaches and media would do.

Gun to one’s head, who would you bet would finish below us? I predict a scrappy 4-8 team that finishes last in Atlantic. What I hope is that we finish strong with momentum going into next year.

Satterfield struggled for 1 1/2 seasons at App St before turning it around. That’s the only evidence we have. I’m not even looking at the record. I want to see some fight in these Cardinals. No more 55-14 games! Not even Clemson! It would also be good if we can be better in the second half if the season than the first. Improvement is key.

It is reasonable to think they will be better and it not like the other teams in the ACC are terrific outside of Clemson. It is almost impossible to know if last years issue was talent or coaching or both. If it is both this year is going to be a struggle. We know coaching was the root cause of the collapse. Players will run through a wall even for coaches they don't like if they win and trust the staff. Throw that out the window when they start losing and are given daily reasons not to trust the coaches the wheels will come off quickly like last year.

This staff knows how to win and they appear to understand how to build a complete program. I believe they will be coached up. The only question is do they have the same level of talent that Wake, NC State, BC, Virginia or Syracuse? I don't think any of these teams outclass them talent wise, but year 1 is always a struggle for a new staff with a roster full of holes.

There is a path to 6 wins if they stay the course and they truly are together.

I like being in the underdog role. 8 ACC games as the underdog. Hmm. I like our chances. We have nowhere to go but up....as there is no 9th place.

Winning 2-3-4 or even 5 would send a message to the league members not to underestimate the Cards ever.....and never again. CSS and staff have their work cut out for them. We shall see what they are made of this year.

Hoping for 6-6 or 7-5. That would shake things up a bit for the so called experts don't ya think?
