Cal's new book "Mediocre Coaching 101"

Third book will be "Turnovers by YOUNG Players". He used the term "young players" again while talking with the on floor ESPN person AGAIN.

Nice defense in 2nd half but hey, he made sure this guy was there last night. How pretentious.

Heavyweight fight my ass.

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhh Lets get ready to stumbbbbbllllllllle."

The last time out was good, at least they got the ball to Fox for a layup. But there was no discussion of defense-and in the end of games it really isn't your offense, but your ability to make stops. That is what Kentucky will have to eventually learn, that the end of game defense is what wins.

This group has not bought into it like some of his others. That's for sure.

They are mostly freshmen, 6-8 months out of AAU ball. They don't have the experience or maturity to "buy in". It shows up at the end of games.

This is exactly what you get. It's obvious that there is no Karl Anthony Towns. Anthony Davis or John Wall here. All of these kids will be gone next year. I've said it before and I'll say it again . . . THEY NEED TO BE ACTUALLY COACHED.

Anthony Davis ain't walkin' thru that door.

Ive said it 1000 times, i'll say it again :

1 and dones dont bother me. Crapiperi gets tons of them and only has 1 Title.
He can stay at SuCkS for as long as he wants.

Yeah, I think BBN is starting to finally see it with this group. It took Cal scoring Anthony Davis (a transcendent talent) in one of his best recruiting classes to win a Championship. Darius Miller played a crucial role on that team as well. You have to have some quality upperclassmen mixed in. I'm not sure Hawkins and Willis qualify.

Cal missed badly on Gabriel and Sacha. Bam is no Anthony Davis or KAT. It's a roll of dice every year. Duke is finding that out on some levels as well.

Actually Duke has "other" problems. One, the health of their head coach and, two, a problematic player in Grayson Allen and, three, a couple of injured players. Cal wouldn't make a pimple on Coach K's butt.

You mean like most of Cal's other teams.I agree totally...on the maturity thing.

I like Gabriel. Reminds me of Palacios, and Jaylen.
He's getting under coached.

Not to mention Lamb and Jones coming back when they wouldn't have had it not been for the NBA lockout. Take Jones and Lamb off that 2012 team, they don't win the national championship. It took a perfect storm for Calipari to finally break thru and win a title.

Yeah, I can see the comparison.

That's just it in "Cal's System" he either has to recruit/score guys that are ballers from jump with little development needed (see Wall, Davis, KAT, etc...) or he has to recruit guys that are going to stick around at least 2 to 3 years and they know that coming in. I would argue that most if not all could stand some development/coaching in order to make them better NBA players.

For example, take Briscoe. He was not a planned 2 year guy. In his eyes and many others (specifically other recruits/players) he is failure for sticking around for his sophomore season.

Has Briscoe really improved? How about Hawkins? Willis? UK fans please spare me Harrellson.

We all remember what happened to Cal when he did have one of his starting five miss the remainder of the season with a injury . L I T. Same thing could happen if their center or one of the guards went down. Point being, Duke has had injuries to key players but will still salvage the season. Cal would be looking at another L I T invite if something similar were to happen. Great recruiter, below average coach.

Cal's problem is he's obsessed w/how many players he can get into the NBA, problem is UK ISN'T an NBA team, it's a college team and he doesn't act like it.

There's still a few uk fan holdouts trying to peddle the notion that Cal can coach. They hear guys like Dickie V, Bill Raftery, Seth Greenburg, Vern Lundquist, Gus Johnson or even Jay Bilas talk about how Cal is a great coach and think that's gospel for some reason. Most of those guys suck at their profession beyond being entertaining. Why some people think they know basketball better than my big toe because they call the games is beyond me. Simon Cowell judges singers but couldn't carry a tune in bucket himself.
Recruiting a player to play for you I guess means you're a coach and saying Cal gets his kids all to play as a team does too I guess. But saying he is a great coach based on that is utter nonsense. Of course they have to play as a team. They are actually on the same team so therefore have to play together. Cal is a terrible Xs and Os coach. He's proven it many times. He talks about how his job is to get them to the NBA and paid over winning a championship but then calls them selfish MFers when they play for the scouts. He is a terrible in-game crucial situation play caller. His philosophy is to recruit the talent and let them do what they do best and get out of the way....except when he looks bad...then he blames the kids for not listening. Yeah...great coach.
