We’re stuck with Cal Lite
I mean - that’s sure the way it looks. Everyone keeps talking about needing talent and while that is undeniably true - it’s what you do (or can do) with said talent.

The yuts constantly have top 3 talent and where has that gotten them and the man and program that Payne is trying to emulate?

why do you think KP is trying to emulate Cal? seems to me he does it a different way and if it's it true that he was instrumental in developing theirwinning team then he wouldn't be emulating cal, he'd be doing something different. now you're jsut throwing crap at the wall to try to make your point that you say over and over again and when we win with KP you will be taunted endlessly by everyone so you're on a precipice and about to fall off the wrong side

I hope you’re right but I have to wait and see before I believe it. I just can’t believe so many top players go there just be under achievers.

Sheesh - Have you ever listened to cow and Payne speak? The verbiage that he uses to describe the type of “culture” he is trying to establish basically mirrors what cow says - minus 90% of the arrogance.

He spent 10 years with cow but your premise is that he’s not a cow disciple? Lol - ok. Why don’t you tell me the differences - I mean minus the 28 regular and post season losses - between what Payne has said he’s trying to do and, what cow has implemented.

And spoiler alert - I’m not worried about being “taunted” by anonymous posters on a message board. That’s your and @redfistfury3’s gig.

Payne fell short in so many areas this season. When I look at 4-28 I still can't believe my eyes even though I saw it. Denny's last few teams were really bereft of talent and I'd argue less talented than this years team and he coached them to 12 wins. People who claim this year is all because of talent are really tone deaf to what was going on.

His coaching this offseason is just as important as during the season. Will he meet with each returning player to instruct them individually on what they need to do to prepare for next season. That lack of effort on defense, rebounding, and coming into the season out of shape won't be tolerated? It's hard to believe those conversations went on last season. He needs to quit being everyone's favorite uncle and demand performance in all areas of the program or they won't play.

I give him credit on recruiting so far but he still hasn't brought in a true point guard. Next year will be a young team which seems a ready made excuse, but will they learn from mistakes and improve during the season? Much left to be proven.

I wonder how many POYs and five stars Kansas State has on their team?

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me how never having been a head coach at age 56 and spending 10 years under Cowapari qualifies someone to be head coach at a program like U of L 😣
You’ll have to keep waiting.

Because it absolutely does not.

We made a mistake hiring Payne, but now we are left with playing out the hand we have been dealt.

I hope this recruiting class finishes out as strong as it has started, and 2023-24 turns around ……. but quite honestly, I am not real optimistic for all of the reasons that CardDan just shared.

It appears they made a mistake in hiring Payne. You don’t win games at this level or even have a chance in the tournament without dudes. He is addressing the dude issue.

Next year is going to determine if it really was a mistake. I think we all have that concern. I am still concerned with the roster, his kind of players will actually work in college basketball. We will see.

Phrase......One and done 😂🤣😅😂🤣
Hey now, let's not sell Calipari short. This year it was 2 and done. We won our 1st NCAA tournament game in 4 years. Considering the way it's been the previous 2 or 3 years making the round of 32 is an improvement. Heck next year we might make it all the way to the Sweet-16.

The reality is - historically UofL’s recruiting is never going to match up to the yuts. So, if a HOF (giggle) coach in Sweaty Cow is no longer able to make that relic of an offense win their conference and make it to the 2nd weekend - why in TF would anyone expect his 56 YO assistant to have more success - running the same shit?

I’d really like an answer from some of the Payne slurpers - of which, I do not consider Cycle to be one of.

I won’t be able to sell you anything X and O with Payne. He was 4-28 so nothing he did supports anything anyone would say.

People lose will their mind when I say this but he really is trying to do many of the same things Denny did. Look at his roster as of right now. It mirrors early Denny’s rosters. Long athletic players that were interchangeable offensively and defensively. I don’t think he will run exactly what Cal does. I really think he is trying to create match up problems when he can. Very similar to Denny in posting up guards or bigs that get guards. When is the last time Cal posted up a guard? Kenny tried it multiple times. Everyone runs the high pick and roll stuff. KP is no different.

The 1st step is getting legit NBA talent. Like I posted earlier there hasn’t be a team that has won a title without a 1st round pick since 1987. You can run a thousand sets but if you don’t have NBA talent history tells us you aren’t winning a title.

Don't jump back on the band wagon when KP turns it around!!!

That FAU coach might deserve a look too before a smart AD beats the field to him. He has the look. Team plays an exciting brand of ball too.

Never satisfied

I was listening to sports talk on radio today and they said that several SEC coaches said that the Calipari offense is so antiquated that it is easy to stop.
