LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kentucky Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, with its state office in Louisville and 176 agencies located across Kentucky, has committed a multi-year donation to University of Louisville Athletics that will help fund future projects and assist with the Cardinals' expanding community service efforts.
In 2017, Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance made a similar contribution to the university to become the presenting sponsor of CardsCare, the community outreach program for Cardinal Athletics. Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance wanted to further that mission and join in the university's continuing efforts of giving back to the community.
The UofL athletics department finished third in the 2018 NCAA Division I Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition for its community outreach efforts, marking the fourth consecutive year that the Cardinals have ranked in the top five in service. Through its CardsCare program, UofL accrued approximately 9,000 hours of community service for the 2017-18 school year. The Cardinals had a 97 percent participation rate, with 656 student-athletes, including spirit group members, volunteering throughout the community.
"Kentucky Farm Bureau was created to serve the many great people and communities that make up this state, so partnering with the University of Louisville and its tremendous student-athlete service program has been an excellent match to our organization's goals," said John Sparrow, CEO of Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance. "We are honored to come alongside the university's mission to serve in this community and proud to further our support of the positive impact they make year-round."
"We sincerely appreciate this significant commitment and the faith it exhibits in our direction moving forward," said
Vince Tyra, UofL Vice President/Director of Athletics. "It has been encouraging to have corporate and individual donors approach us on how they can be of help and supportive of our current efforts. Kentucky Farm Bureau's contribution will touch all of our sports programs and have a positive impact on our community."
The new donation from Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance has helped ignite the Cardinals' "Next Step Fund," which will provide resources for future improvements with UofL's student-athlete experience and capital projects.
Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance will be honored within Cardinal Stadium as one of a select group of cornerstone partners, joining Adidas, Anheuser-Busch, Norton Healthcare, Kentucky One, Planet Fitness/Sun Tan City, PNC, Pepsi, Stites & Harbison, Thorntons, UPS and Yum! Brands, as well Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn, Jim Patterson and the Trager family. Each of these partners have made a significant impact on UofL Athletics.
UofL recently completed a $63.25 million expansion to Cardinal Stadium, which includes 1,000 club seats, 70 premium boxes, 12 exclusive field level suites, the Pepsi Club and Adidas Club, and extensive expansion of the football complex beneath the seating. UofL also completed its Athletics Broadcast Center, an $8 million television production facility with multiple control rooms, a studio and work space connected to its sports venues by fiber.
