BEST LOUISVILLE WINS THIS YEAR

None of that means ish. You're on a national stage now in the ACC. Big time games week in and out after New Year's. What happens before Xmas are mostly meaningless exhibitions.

Evolve your thinking...
You think everything is meaningless. Very odd. I think your just a contrarian. Go ahead and tank everything before Xmas and see how that serves your team.

Team moral, fan moral, potential seeding for march, etc. everything would be damaged. What you're encouraging is small picture thinking.

WTH would you know about this issue playing in the SEC? Of course you emphasize OOC games.

We can play ten weak sisters in Nov/Dec and still get a one-seed ripping thru the ACC. That should be our focus, but we still have some nostalgists and old school thinkers in our fanbase.

And none of us need a slapd!ck's perspective.

"Elite program," my a$$...

The defeat of Kentucky, the defeat of IU, the defeat of Notre Dame, and the defeat of Purdue. Local bragging rights.
Contrary to Zipp-ish thinking, this was a really good consolation this year because we didn't win anything else other than area bragging rights, not that that's some small accomplishment. Next to a National Championship or Final Four, local bragging rights are next in line IMO.

As I acknowledged, we still have too many little brothers in our fanbase who care too much what big brothers think/say/do. And that makes you look small and backward to folks elsewhere.

Excuse me if I differentiate elements of our fanbase that I want no part of...

Bragging rights are important to the fan base of any school and also helps with recruiting. It also helps with NCAA seeding. These wins were the highlight of the season, especially in light of the strange meltdowns in some ACC games. At times it was hard to find televised ACC games. A great conference would not have that problem. Not everyone can get into the financially troubled YUM Center. Those big non conference games help pay for it. It would also be more fun to play Cincinnati and Memphis State than Virginia Tech and Wake.

Uum, it's called being a FAN Zipp.

Yeah, the Kentucky win is turning out to look better than it did for a long while. Like the NBA, when the games started to matter, they picked up their level of play. Just imagine if they weren't stuck in the sub par SEC. If they actually had a challenging conference, they may have actually put out better, consistent effort ... which would have better prepared them for the big dance.

Beating Indiana, after they beat both North Carolina and Kansas, looked very good, until injuries sent them on the path to oblivion. So a loss to them in retrospect would look pretty bad.

Beating Purdue who had their best finish in a while is solid. But hardly a chest bumping moment. I'd rank that with beating Wichita State.

And we split with Notre Dame, but they are better than their finish. But a split hardly means we own them. And honestly, I don't consider them a local team, despite the geography and the huge catholic contingent in town. ND is a national brand.

All in all I am not disappointed in the season. For me, it was all about gaining experience for next season. I expect a true title contender next year. We shall see.

So local area bragging rights > NCAA-T success? Because 3/4 of those teams advanced further in the tournament

There is only one school, in any sport, that comes home with anything BUT bragging rights.

Throw that out? What is there to care about? Why should we keep throwing money in a hole? (Being a boat owner I know this answer ;) )

When it's all ya got, embrace it.

Best win was Jacksonville St or whoever they were.

Team had a good year, but over-achieved. I started to smell it midway through the season created a thread on it got shot down.

Team was young in key places - the system requires experience and the top 2 players on the team hadn't played a single post season game prior to this year.

Regular season is practice for March. Team never could execute in 2nd halves - they struggled all year in that area, and I put that on the inexperience factor.

Boy, there's some crazy damn logic in this post...
  • Bragging rights have little to do with OUR area recruiting. Snider wasn't recruited hard by anyone locally. Spalding shows an IU offer, but that was before we started playing them again. And no one was going after our walk-ons. Except for the Romeo kid, I'm not sure Pitino Lite has ever recruited a Louisville-area player.
  • It only helps with NCAA seeding when you WIN a game. "Good losses" are irrelevant. For example, 2016-17 was your first win over a respectable LPT team in a freaking decade. A lot of suffering in there for a one-year seed bump.
  • You can't seriously be comparing the effect on your NCAA seed of playing in the ACC to any other factor...nothing compares. It's why the NCAA had NINE teams invited to The Dance. "Meltdowns" didn't occur until AFTER the ACC teams were seeded. IOW they were irrelevant too, and few will remember 2017 when the 2018 tourney is seeded.
  • ACC basketball is probably the most broadcasted conference in the country. I watch a lotta games, and I never went wanting. And WTF, a "great conference"??? Are you a closet slapd!ck?
  • To top it off, you're clueless about Bailout Arena... A game in Lexington or Cincy or Memphis has no positive consequences for THAT arena. If helping Bailout's your motive, you want every directional team you can find on your Nov/Dec home schedule, and never leave Jefferson County until January. That won't save the arena, but it will provide it the maximum financial help.
You're getting the short end of the stick in the LPT series whether you comprehend that or not. But if you're still walking around with an LPT hard-on, admit that like Red does. It's common for some U of L fans to still care what slapd!cks think about them--just own that. Don't try to come up with a lotta nutty reasoning to play teams you dream about...

Geez dude - That's fairly bitter. Maybe you need to take a weekend off from sports and go see Noah's Ark and the Creation Museum. You'll feel better.

"Bitter" is your POV. I will agree that it's a stark description of your reality. And it's nothing like your post above it...sorry.

No one is sorry about beating local rivals this year - No one. We should be playing Cincinnati and Memphis State also. And it's pretty sad that the ACC other than one team did not uphold the honor of the conference in the tournament. We are capable of much better.

It's my opinion that you can no more discredit the ACC's regular season successes by pointing to the NCAA tourney's lack of success than you can credit the SEC's post season tourney success while ignoring the lack of success during the regular season. One does not define the other.

In the end, the ACC had a great season from top to bottom compared to other conferences. The lack of post season success doesn't take anything away from the regular season victories against the other top teams across the college basketball landscape.

Woody has a strange, strange way of looking at things. And it doesn't appear he can be educated by anyone...

Since the 2013 championship year fundamentals have been a critical problem and caused needless losses. High Division I players should be able to make dunks, layups, close shots and free throws.
