It better not go as you expect Red. That’s all I can say. I personally have invested too much money over 35 yrs for us to accept allowing hate talkers to drive our bus. I don’t see it, but I wear rose colored glasses. 😍

Good Luck on that!

One former player said he was told the goal of the meeting was to improve the relationship between the administration and basketball program with former players. Three players, who asked not to be identified, said that their priority was to discuss improving opportunities and representation for Blacks within the U of L athletics programs.

University spokesman John Karman said the meeting is "part of an ongoing effort to engage former players and hear their voices."

And I have no problem with former players if they are not hate mongers on the radio or any SM source. But then again I’m not one of those folks that every time there’s a coach opening or gossip of an opening….there’s calls for hometown or former players. If some coach is qualified, some day, I will be cheering from the roof top. I got burned on this concept with David Padgett and said never again. Experience matters, winners record matters. No matter how much I adored them in a UofL uniform.

I agree I don’t care what color they are as long as they are winning coaches. Hiring someone who’s qualifications based on them being a former player would not be smart. With the long history that we have can anyone tell me what former players of ours were great coaches as well?

This should tell you what Eaves plans to do. States he will tryand be the first person to speak on his issues and then leave. Because he doesn't want the others to be lumped into his issues. This dude is nothing but a sore butthole. Pisses me off he is just trying to place blame on the issues on an admin that had nothing to do with any of the prior problems with former players. Now he mad at Tyra because of his staff make up of personal.

Sounds like an effort to try to bring people together, or at least to the table. A start. It's a weird thing seeing some alumni feeling how they feel about the program, just not in their shoes no clue what they see or feel.

Can Denny and Pitino come too!?!? or how about some other ex player/bball staff that I refuse to mention...point is, some bridges get burned...others just fall down. I appreciate what the sentiment is here; but I feel like it will be a PR maneuver when it's all said and done.

I appreciate what Bendi, Tyra and Mack are trying to do but as far as I am concerned Eaves and Beard have burned their bridges. I say let them go their way and cut ties with them, by giving them a platform you might be playing into their hands. I really have no interest in what either of them have to say.

I listened to Eaves today . And his tone hasn't changed towards U of L he even had the audacity to discredit Bendi's email to the players. And the kicker he insinuated that if Dino's accusations against Mack are founded . That U of L will not do what is needed to be done. Basically saying Mack would need to be fired. This guy is nothing but trouble and he basically stated from my take no matter what is said by the U of L admin Mon he isn't going to still be happy. .I really dislike him now.

Hopefully U of L admin understand going into this that Eaves and Beard will try and bait them in . I can tell you no matter what is said those two clowns are still going to be uncooperative . It's truly sad that Mack already dealing with a plate of crap and some self added also. Has to deal with this why didn't they raise cane during Rick's tenure. Instead of trying to tear down this regime hep build it up.

Why Red why? Why give him a listen? Do you plan to die from high BP while listening to a hater? 🤨

I don’t under the hate on David Padgett. He is L1C4 through and through. He did the best he could given the circumstances and hell, he sure wasn’t given 3 years to not make it past the 1st round..

No hate intended. I loved Padgett, wanted him to succeed, wanted to see him as our coach. But the RP haters wanted him gone because of the ties. DP was thrown into an impossible situation.

I'm sorry i like David but not to be the coach. True story i met him at least 5 times great nice guy. But he has no personality whatsoever you talk about boring he would had to have the greatest recruiters in the world too impress kids. Is he still coaching anywhere?

Coaches careers are much like pro athletes. Sometimes the timing and situation don’t fit but imagine you’re an alumni of a program, did the best you could given the circumstances, won games for sure and lost games maybe fans thought he shouldn’t and then find out the AD had already made plans without giving you a chance. What a hit to your self esteem and what a message it sent out to potential employers. He must have been mixed up in something right. A leftover of Pitino?

I like David and will always consider him a true Cardinal and David is not an A- hole like Eaves and Beard.

David is by all indications a class act who deserves both respect and appreciation for his contribution to UL; first as a player, then as a HC who volunteered to lead a team under the most adverse conditions imaginable; and lastly for the professional manner in which he left that temporary position without expressing any resentment towards UL.

Conversely, Jerry Eaves is a bitter and whining ex-player who has lost the respect of most every UL fan. Those who continue to give Eaves a local audience are doing a disservice to both UL and Eaves. Jerry‘s agenda is destructive to his own reputation.

Rather impressive turnout by former UL BB players, and overall it appears to have been a positive exchange. Eaves was quoted a few times, and from the reports coming from other attendees, it sounds as though Jerry was far less critical in his contribution than what he has been espousing over the radio.

I went to school with the Unseld family; beyond George and Wes being prolific HS Basketball players, their father was the gentle giant in the Newburg community, a man who led by example.

Wes deserves a statue for his exceptional career at UL, and I totally support that initiative. At the same time, this city needs to recognize Wes’ father and his brother for their incredibly positive influence in our community. That family navigated the turbulent 1960s with the utmost dignity that commanded the respect of all people who were associated with them.
