I definitely get that Josh came out with full support of his coach. I also get that there will be immense pressure from the same factions that got Kenny hired, to give him three years. I’ll even grudgingly admit that Kenny walked into a dumpster fire of huge proportions. The problem for our AD and university administrators is the money. They can’t run and hide from that. UofL hoops fans know what good coaching and good basketball look like, and they know we won’t get that with Payne. The 2012 UK roster would not win it all with Kenny at the helm. Realistically, how long will they be able to hold out with 3k people in The Yum? Despite their talking points to the media, and now even to opposing coaches, I don’t see how it goes beyond this year. Does a second year all depend upon what happens with the portal?

These are the questions that we will have the answers on shortly after the season ends. I think everything is on the table with such a unique situation but like I said in that thread Kerry Rhodes created comparing this year to last year, it feels like the fans are just rewinding the tape to where we were prior to the hire. The majority doesn't always get what they want.

This is just an amazing situation.

I see two possibilities … the first is that the AD commits to allowing Kenny to attempt to fix his own mess. Under that scenario, he gets to remake the roster, and we see what he can do in year 2. The leash is pretty short though … if he doesn’t have a winning season, year 2 will be his last.

The second possibility is that this season ends up as such a spectacular failure that he’s fired shortly after the ACC tournament.

I have no insider information, but if you ask me to handicap each option. I’m leaning 70% toward option 2 at this point.
