FSU

WF has not allowed a rushing touchdown so far this season.

WF held FSU to 91 yards rushing on 29 attempts or 3.1 ypc

FSU ran 51 plays WF ran 89 plays and they held FSU to 16 first with FSU only a paltry 4 1st downs rushing.

They turned FSU over 3 times 1 int and 2 fumbles

Virginia

WF held Virginia to 148 yards rushing with a whopping 49 yards worth of TFLs leaving Virginia with a total of 99 yards rushing

Virginia ran 74 plays to WF 86

WF sacked Virginia's QB 6 times

My take away is:

Satterfield will have to call a great game an be able to make adjustments.

Brown will have to stop WF running game, the good thing is Brown won't have to make many adjustments, he'll just have to have a really good substitution plan to keep fresh bodies on the field.

WF is very strong against the run.

They cause fumbles, love to strip the ball.

WF likes to play fast.

They primarily depend on running the ball.

They are terrible matchup for us, it will be a "strength vs strength" type of game where one team will have to impose it's will on the other.

My opinion

The Cards have to try to establish the run early, if we can't run, Malik will have to be patient in the pocket and play the short passing game. ( I hope we come out and play the heavies early to establish a rushing game)

Malik will have to play this entire game out of his comfort zone.

I think we have the advantage in the passing game.

We will have to sell out to stop their running game they run the ball more than twice as much as they pass the ball.

Malik will have to rely on lots of passing out of the backfield and the TE will have to have a great game both blocking and passing.

They must improve on ball security WF will kill us if we turn it over.

The defense will have to get better at tackling, they are improving, but WF will be a big test.

I agree very tough matchup. Louisville will have to play extremely good to win. Wake is a very experienced team that runs their system very well.

The thing that worries me the most is that Satterfield doesn't make in game adjustments very well.

The offense will start fast but if we get the lead he goes to the running game and tries to protect the lead too early.

I think if the the offense plays a fast tempo the entire game it will give us a great chance. Tempo for this team comes at a cost, Malik is very good at quick routes but tempo could mean a lot of three and outs or cause drive killing false starts.

Either way, I hope we catch WF on an off week and pull the upset.

Players have to execute the plays. When they don’t hard to adjust. The coaches can bench the guys that aren’t executing.

Now the one thing I would like to see is a better audible system or Qb freedom when the defense shows certain things. For example FSU started walking down a safety on early downs in 2nd half. They have to check into other plays. It appears they stick to the original call.

One thing I can say is that I like Berkley a lot.

He is a very good blocker and a bruiser when he runs. It is yet to be determined if he can catch out of the backfield though.

Welcome back Spothog. I predict another shoot out at WF. I’m not ready to declare a L, yet.

I for sure think we can win, in fact I think we COULD win big.

IMO this game will depend on how Satterfield calls the game, there's only so much you can blame on the players for not executing plays. If they are put in a position to fail based on the play call, that's the coaches fault.

This team seems to play reasonably well using tempo.

Satterfield will probably start with runs. I would start with short outs. Accuracy is important! Then change to runs.

I really do think WF will be stripping the ball every chance they get.

I also agree with you that he tends to turtle-up when he gets the lead. He wants to eat the clock.

I know to be careful what I wish for, but I’m going with an “I hope so” on this.

Stripping results in extra yardage far more times than strips.

Secure the ball and let them strip vs tackle all the way to the EZ.

Simple 🤣 ;)

Yes as long as you hold onto the ball you gain extra yds.

Crowd and weather will be big factors. Will the Wake crowd be a bit more fired up now that they are 4-0 and ranked? They need to keep momentum and know it could be a special season in a down ACC.

Their last taste of 2020 football was us blowing them out. In 2019 we came in and upset them on their home turf. So they will NOT be overlooking us and they will be motivated. We have to be up and be ready. If it's a lazy apathetic crowd and we come out early looking sharp, we can win. But if they are fired up with a tough crowd? It may be tougher. It's on the road and a tough opponent.

Yes. I don't expect them to be apathetic. They've sold a lot a tickets. And they've sold out parking. Hotels have been sold out for a long time.

It’s good to “matter” again.

To have opponents think we are a “big game”.

Now let’s make them hate us more. :p
It's part of winning. Remember the first few years in the ACC 2014, 2015, 2016, & 2017 we came into the ACC and we beat a lot of teams out of the gate. We were down in 2018 but then came in and smacked most of our level of competition down in 2019. They still see us as outsiders and I love it when we beat them!

FSU routinely made boneheaded plays to get blown out in Winston Salem. They were on the verge of a comeback when they turned the ball over in the end zone. Watch the game. Jordan Travis started at QB and made several WTF throws. I’m not saying WF did nothing good, but FSU certainly helped them.

Wake Forest defense concerns me, but their pressure is mostly caused by one guy wreaking havoc on the line. He’s a load, but may not be insurmountable.

Offensively, they are very good, but based on the last 2 years, I think Bryan Brown knows how to plan for them. Remember in 2019 we had no depth, but the defense played well. Final score shows they gave up 59, but most of that was in the 4th quarter when the game got crazy with onside kicks and our guys were getting gassed.

I don’t like that we lost Monty and Braden, but we have young guys on D that should fill in nicely and a secret weapon on offense that we are about to deploy. I’m actually pretty confident heading into this one.

I've been waiting for Werts to get the chance. His absence has gotten very little attention. He's a possible game changer.

I thought Satt said he may be available. But would be back for UVA. I hope he’s back for Saturday. So it won’t be long and your correct he could be a game changer.
