I'm sure I'll take some heat for this one but IMO they are.

I know they were in Pre Season T15 in most publications and aren't that far ahead of that right now. B

But, given the injuries, to be 22-5 right now, Pitino is going to get into COY discussion from some people. Few is going to win it this year, or Collins @ NW, but Pitino has done a great job with this team.

You could say that.

Theyre a year ahead of schedule. However,
Coach Pitino sees a potential Final Four team
Have to get 100% healthy.
The collective team basketball IQ has to improve on the defense.
VJ and Ray are the last two who hasnt fully played up to their potential.

Win at UNC and the Cards are a FF contender.
Until then its probably E8.
Coming into the season it was SS, yet despite being so inexperienced, theyre one win
away from leading the ACC.

Win the ACC regular season with this team should get Coach Pitino National Coach of the Year.

I don't know if I would say they've overachieved, but they are coming together to reach their potential. I think coach Pitino saw that diamond in the rough last year and was excited about it.

He has said this team is a joy to coach. They listen to him. It's not surprising the team is reaching its potential. Despite what some who post here believe, coach Pitino is pretty darn good at his job.

He won't get COY. As last year showed, there are still too many haters among the sports writers.

For anyone interested, I'm going to start a petition on change.org so that we can get beasley in charge instead of CRP, that way this team can reach it's full potential.
if you believe spalding is only good for 9 minutes a game and that he does not hold his freshman back go ahead. it is well known that he holds his freshman back because he does not want 1 and dones. it is known world wide. put that in your high felutant pipe and smoke it

So you're in? I'll get that petition going ASAP.

I don't think CRP holds his freshmen back, but instead he implements such complex defensive schemes from day one that incoming players struggle. With time and experience the freshman improve and can be relied upon more frequently. VJ and Ray are only the most recent examples. Do you remember when Russ was a freshman? Yes he got injured and yes he was often out of position and he struggled. But giving more time (and Rakeem Buckles talking him into staying at Louisville) Russ lived up to the potential that we only saw glimpses of during his freshman season. I think this year CRP recognized that the schedule was more difficult early and so he delayed installing the match up zone, which is why some guys are still struggling with it even this late in the season. Once they know the scheme and can execute without having to think about where they are supposed to be VJ and Ray will get more minutes.

I am sure you have better smack than this man.
weak sauce.........

he holds his teams back in a few ways, 1 as a surprise to unleash for the ncaa tourney and 2 he does not want his freshmen to bolt......... its not a sklam, it is a fact......

We are currently in the top 10, we are playing for first place in the ACC Wednesday night, recruiting is going great and our last four years in the NCAA tourney we have a sweet 16, an elite eight, a final four and a NC. Your constant nit-picking and complaining about the way CRP coaches this team is the weak sauce.

if you have ever played sports, you know there is always room for improooooovement. if this team does that we will have number 4 so thanks for participating sir.

I get it, you want them to win it all. We all do, otherwise why would we both taking time out of our days to post here and talk Cards hoops. And I understand you are just voicing your opinion, which is perfectly allowed. You get better expect plenty of flak when you are reacting the way you are in the middle of such a great run for our basketball program.

I don't think VJ is being held back. To this point he has shown little to no interest in playing defense, and that won't fly wit Pitino as you all know. I think he will get some more minutes down the stretch, because he can be an offensive spark...plus Adel is very streaky and can use a few less minutes when he's on a bad streak.

You are correct. We both want a championship. And with subtle changes we will get there. This is the time of year pitino makes those changes.
Wednesday will be interesting.

VJ is averaging about 15 minutes a game which is right where Mitchell and Rozier were at their freshman year. My guess is Mitchell turns pro and VJ gets 30 plus minutes a game next year

Beasley, I like your passion man but this guy has a point. There's a long way to fall from here.

nope I'm new here, never had an account here before this, will stop coming here now with the constant negativity. it was already somewhat unwelcome with the UK fans posting :)

In my view the Cards are doing better than I expected this season. With the loss of Lee, Lewis, and the unexpected loss of Nanu, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect with this team. Mitchell improved a whole lot this season and so has Snider along with a couple of others. With where the Cards are in the ACC standings and in the polls, I'm really happy with what the team has accomplished so far.

Overachieving is a real back handed compliment imo. It implies that your talent level is small or sucky, I don't like that. Furthermore, this team is extremely talented, so no, overachieving simply doesn't fit with this team....

Honestly, this is where I expected them to be. My expectation going into this season was a Final Four. The pieces are all there: talent, depth, excellent defense, experience, a press, 3 point shooting, a rim protector, athletes, and over the last 2 months we've had a go-to guy to go win a game for you. I acknowledge the injuries but the won those "easier" games anyway as they should have, and we always lose to VA so might as well give the injured guys another day to recover. *shrugs* I will say I expected a bad loss in January (@BC had me worried), just because there always is one, but there hasn't.

I'm pretty much with you. I'd maybe replace "expectation" to "very obtainable goal" now - maybe that's the same thing. I try not to put too much pressure on it.

I thought team would be in the 5 seed range, which is a good team, with the potential to get to the FF. I thought there could be a lack of shooting and interior offense to get us to where we are overall right now.

Things can change quick, for better or worse!

Semantics but we're on the same page. Cards win tomorrow night and they'll be a 1 seed. Being a 1 really sets up a nice path to the Final Four based on history.
