It's a crying shame Pat Kelsey didn't win the award. It's also just typical bias against UofL. Now I know I'm a broken record, but when shit like this continues, I can't help but call it out as it is.
Both Bruce Pearl and Rick Pitino are established successful coaches, with Pitino in the Hall. Both having great success this season whether expected or not, is not a surprise. On the other hand, it was damn near a miracle that Kelsey won 27 games at Louisville.
Kelsey should have won the award in a landslide. The ACC being down has had no negative affect on Duke. Not only did Kelsey's Cards win all those conference games, they blew most of those teams out.
And Kelsey had multiple major injuries as we all know. Not one single voter for this award can say they weren't shocked at what Kelsey accomplished. Again, the ACC being down is no excuse. Why didn't UNC, Wake or FSU dominate the ACC? They all have supposedly great coaches.
For those Cards fans who anticipate Kelsey winning future awards, remember this. Rick Pitino went to three final 4's and won one title yet he didn't win AP COY.
No, he had to be at St. Johns to do that.
Kelsey would need to go 32 and 3 and then he may be a finalists.
