Another Test @ FSU

Last night was an impressive win for the Cards over Clemson especially when you consider that they did it without Q. Can they carry this into a big road win over FSU?

The game at FSU tomorrow presents another test or opportunity for this basketball team to really set
itself apart. It's not a must win by any stretch, but would really position the Cards well in the ACC, go a long way in perception and how this team is viewed nationally.

FSU is sitting tied w/ UNC and ND at the top spot in the conference at 5-1 and 17-2 overall. FSU is long and athletic. They have big wins over Florida (I know), @Virginia (speaks for itself), Duke and ND with 3 of those wins being at home. FSU plays well at home and there is no reason for us to expect anything different from them tomorrow.

Not that it really matters now, but Louisville is much better than their current ranking would suggest. Let's see if they can come out and pass another huge test without Q and take advantage of an opportunity to really standout not only in the ACC, but in overall national perception. There is not a team ranked above Louisville that scares me.

Scheduling does not help with the quick turnaround, but these are circumstances they will be presented with in the NCAA tournament obviously without the travel component.

This is a big one tomorrow. No way to downplay it.

This team is still growing which means they're still inconsistent. I have no clue what to expect especially with the quick turnaround, but the lack of preparation time worries me some. Like you pointed out, a loss to Florida State at their place wouldn't be horrific, but it would be a very nice win if they can pull it off. I'll be screaming my fool head off at the TV from the comfort of my home. Hopefully my neighbors won't get too freaked out. LOL.

I think the IU game was considered neutral floor,so getting a win on the road against Fla St would be the biggest win of the season to date. It's what's missing at this point, but they have not proven themselves there(on the road) yet.
but the lack of preparation time worries me some.
Mitchell said post game last night that they've been getting ready for this game since right after the Duke win.Tall task ,to say the least.Since the loss to Virginia, this group has become a different team in preparation.Pitino says they treat all these games like tournament games.

Really looking forward to seeing how the team responds, win or lose.

OP these circumstances are worse than the NCAA actually... It's not neutral, Cards don't have their PG, and FSU does not have a similar quick turn around, travel issue.

There's also familiarity, we've owned them for decades. They will want this one, real bad, and have some major built in advantages to getting it.

So really, there shouldn't be much expectation for this one. It is an opportunity, an opportunity to provide Pitino more film to teach them for March.

Whenever our kids are coached to throw it in the middle we doninate the other team

This is true in terms of not being a true neutral site game, travel, familiarity, and FSU does not have a quick turnaround, etc... The larger point is that this is another measuring stick/test/opportunity for this team to see where they are on 1/21.

Can the Cards win a big one on the road?
Can they show some consistency?

I'm looking it at more through the lense of the Cards in terms of game preparation and attempting to get a huge win on the road against quality opponent (possible 3 or 4 seed). Do they know each other well? Yes, but both teams are quite different and feature different aspects and components of their games/teams this year to prepare for (i.e. Cards length/size and more m2m play this year with limited zone to name a few).

The ACC may get 9 or 10 teams in so we may see these teams down the road.

May be more difficult and different than the tournament overall for sure, but that's a good thing.

Not looking for a win, but looking to see how has this team has developed to this point.

Big test tomorrow, no doubt. This is as good a team @ FSU since Ron King & Otto Petty made the championship game. They are talented and long! As athletic as any team we'll face this season. They truly have a chance to go deep in the NCAA tourney. With Q in the ACC tourney I like our chances, tomorrow we go in short-handed with nothing to lose, it should be a fun game!

I was just thinkin over a drink or two, maybe this game moves us from the 3 line to the 2 if we can get the win.I know that this team is still a wiprogress, but getting this one moves us firmly onto the 2 line.
Idk,just crossed my mind.

Yeah, I agree. I think these games and the importance of them get discounted sometimes. It's not a must win and would not be a bad loss, but it would be nice to have another big one under their belts on the road.

It's a big one for January.

Positions the Cards well in the ACC standings (team is focused on getting a top 4 spot for a bye in the ACC tournament)
Prep for March
Quality win = Resume Builder/Impacts seeding which has an indirect impact on March
Confidence Builder

This team is sitting at 16-3. 16-3 and could easily be 17-2 possibly 18-1 and still have not reached their full potential yet. No bad losses. It would be nice to add another quality win in the win column.

Some look at is well we don't have Q and it's January. Take a look at the schedule. I think this team is possibly good enough to finish this season 10-2 factoring in a win over FSU.

Can they build on the win over Clemson and show some level of consistency in what will be a hostile environment? We will find out a lot more about where they are in this one.

Yep.it has meaning despite what the casual observer thinks. We move into q solidly 2 spot or we don't.

It may not be a must win but we are sitting 1 game behind FSU, UNC and ND ( who has already beaten us). There are about eight teams sitting there with three losses so theoretically we could go from 4th or 5th to 10th or 11th so if it's not a must it certainly is important and us without our PG. Yeah it's FSU but this team is really good. I hope the Cards can find a way to win.

It is an understatement that the FSU game will be extremely difficult. We will be fortunate to come out of Tallahassee as a winner. And of course this is compounded by the absence of Q. Snider. But I'd much rather have our coach on the sidelines than the coach they have. FSU's coach is a good guy but his coaching resume leaves a lot to desire in comparison to Rick Pitino.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!
