Wow the ACC will have 4 teams in the Sweet 16 that should validate it is one the best if not the best conference this year.

The Big Ten is still crowing with 4 teams (Michigan, IU, Ohio State, and Maryland) although IU barely survived Princeton. The SEC is down to one although it is a big one in South Carolina. UNC may give them a game, however. It will be interesting to see how NC State plays Notre Dame this time. The Cards have a tough one in Tennessee. The Vols are long, but the Vols will have to get the ball to them and that will be no easy task. The ACC could have as little as one team or as many as three teams in the elite eight after next Friday and Saturday.

The only vulnerable position that I see with this UL team is at the 5; it is the one position that our opponents have been able to gain an advantage over us for several years.

Tamari Key is not just 6’6” tall, she is athletic; she is quite capable of dominating in the defensive half court, and rebounding on both ends. Olivia and Liz will need to alternate “putting a body on her”, to neutralize her interior presence.

Conversely, UT will struggle finding anyone who can defend Emily effectively ……very difficult matchup for the Vols.

$EC has two - uSC and Tennessee.

I think O and Liz have been fine defensively against everyone else’s bugs. Question, in my mind, is can they produce offensively? I watched UT’s center some in the Belmont game - color me not scared. UofL has faced better post players this year on more than one occasion. They must keep Dye under control!

Jeff did quite well against Brittaney Griner. He'll have a game plan.

She is not Britney Griner. She is not Cunane and she is not Kitley.

I find it interesting when fans compare the contribution of Cochran and Dixon unfavorably with the post or 5 players of some other teams. Jeff continues to have those two share time on the court with very few occasions when they are playing simultaneously. Collectively per game, they play 37 minutes, score 14.3 points per game, rebound at 8.5 , block about 1.4 shots, shoot about 55% from the field, and make about 73% of their foul shots. That essentially ties HVL in scoring and ranks right behind Emily in rebounding. Tamari , admittedly, blocks a lot of shots, mostly by standing around under the basket, but has only 12 steals and 32 assists. Our collective post duo has 34 steals and 55 assists. I really feel good about the collective post play of Olivia and Liz.

You are correct. If I read this right…I am not questioning their contributions throughout the season. I think they (combined) have been just fine. My take is can they (combined) score against Tamari due to her shot-blocking abilities. In my post I did not say they couldn’t score against her; rather, I think they can defend her and score enough to be perfectly effective. N

I watched a lot of the games and the teams that come out and rebound strong, go aggressively for lose balls, play good defense and smart shots are going to win. I am surprised how unprepared some of these teams are. I watched the Arizona vs UNC game and Arizona did not go after rebounds and they couldn’t hit their shots including layups.

It is true that Tamari Key is not the offensive “go to” Big that Cunane, Kitley are, or what Griner was at Baylor, It‘s her interior defensive presence that makes her effective and grabbing rebounds …..not so much about scoring.

I am not being critical of Olivia or Liz at all, just sharing the same concerns expressed by those SEC coaches who implemented their game plan around keeping Key away from the rim. Watch how many UT half court sets originate with a pas to Key in the post.
