UofL alum and Arizona TE Gerald Christian scored the Arizona Hotshots’ first touchdown last night as Arizona beat Salt Lake City 38-22 in the first week of Alliance of American Football (AAF) action. Christian caught 3 passes for 44 yards in the game.

Fellow UofL alum Charles Standberry, Jr. caught 2 passes for 20 yards in the Atlanta Legends’ 40-6 loss to the Orlando Apollos. James Quick is also on the Atlanta roster, but did not play.

I watched a little of the Memphis Express game against the Birmingham Iron on the CBS Sports Network. It was pretty good, hard nosed football. No PAT kicks - you have to go for 2. No kickoffs - ball is placed at the 25 yard lines unless a team wants the ball back after scoring. In order to keep the ball, they must convert a 4th and 12 from their own 28 yard line instead of recovering an onside kick. Also, only 35 seconds between plays instead of 40 in the NFL. The games are expected to last 2.5 hours instead of 3.

UofL alum Keith Towbridge is also on the Atlanta roster, but he was not active for Atlanta’s first game.

I watched the games. I like the fast play with no TV timeouts, makes the game faster and keeps the action going. I dont like eliminating the XPs and kickoffs but its probably going to happen in NFL anyway. Also love the OT rules even though they didnt come into play this week.
