A uk loser started it all and UofL fans (& this state) have suffered for it

"Little brother

Eddie Sutton lasted only four seasons (1985-89) as Kentucky head coach, but in December, 1986, he contributed what may be the most famous/infamous quote in UK-U of L hoops rivalry lore.

Said Sutton:

“Kentucky is a bigger program than Louisville. Even though they won two national titles in the 1980s (’80 and ’86), Louisville is like the little brother fighting for recognition from the big brother.” Denny Crum’s reply

“Maybe we never will get as big as Kentucky, but we haven’t been on (NCAA) probation three or four times like they have, either.”

Until then, I watched uk basketball. I grew up watching and listening to both but was always a UofL fan first (went to Seneca with Wes Unseld and Mike Lawhon). My parents took us to Freedom Hall (and yes, the Armory). My father loved sports and went to as many different sporting events that he could, here and all over the country. My mother limited it to basketball and horse racing. (Except for a brief weird time when I was little, they liked wrestling.)

The nastiness that exists is because a uk coach could not compete with what UofL was doing, so to save face with his fans, he started the lil brother thing and they loved it. Forget that they were losing, going on probation, again. No, out in this state, it's all about beating UofL now.

They started it.

Go Cards and (sheepishly after this rant) happy holidays.

p.s. Mike and I aren't going to Lexington. We are 0-3 on the road this year. 9 regular season games this season.

I in no way, shape or form want to be considered related to anything south of the Jefferson Co. Line in this state. I wish I could limit our state tax dollars to Jefferson Co. and we would see who the real little brother is then.

Eddie "the lush" Sutton never won any titles but he did love his booze along with a fondness for cocaine. In addition to being a drunk and a dirty old man he did help bring down the scandal ridden UK program so you gotta love him for that.

In a lot of respects he was a perfect fit in Lexington.

Sutton made the quote indeed , however the hate by SuCkS fans toward UofL fans started
in 1959, when UofL knocked the defending 'chumpions' out of the NCAA tourney.

rupp viewed all in state teams as inferior, refusing to schedule home and homes with them.

When Coach Crum came onto the seen, he called out 'big blew'. He was met with derisons
by Scat fans. Calling his team blackbirds and worse.

Imagine what Coach Crums best teams could have done to SuCks between 72-83 ?

We all know Rupp wasn't a racist just ask Billy Reed. Just another part of their glorious legacy.
