Don’t understand going on 4th & 2 at about the 50 with a 3rd string QB running the show when the clock is your friend (I believe about 8:30 was left in the 4th quarter). Stupid decision IMO.

Thought the same thing. Needed to pin them deep and force them to eat up clock as they try to catch up. It worked out but the strategy was flawed. 100% agree.

And it wasn’t a 4th and inches it was a legit two yards. Don’t get it.

^ this. Perhaps coach was confident in his 'O' line and backs to pickup the first down. Perhaps he was testing them to see what their meddle is. Personally I liked the call...it sends the message to his team that he believes in them. Confidence builder.

I was thinking that they saw something that they could exploit, I trusted the coaching staff before there was a snap this season, after the results so far there is no reason to doubt.

I love the decision. I think good things often happen when you're aggressive. Playing not to lose often blows up in your face.

Also, it sends a message to future coaches watching our game tape that our coach is aggressive. I like that.

Get the FD there and you shut the door. Not such a bad call IMO

With Lamar yes. With a QB that’s been on campus 9 months I beg to differ.

He did make the wrong decision by deciding to give to the running back there, BUT he learned from that mistake and made the right read the next time he ran that play.

I’m thinking that, up 17 with the way our defense was playing, the risk was minimal. You don’t expect WKU to score 3 more times even if you don’t make the 4th down conversion. Now had we been up less than two scores, I agree that punting would have been the right call.

I liked the decision.
Lets be real. As abysmal as the Cards were last year, these last 2 games were practice games for the ACC.
The sooner the Cards can get back to ACC status, the better. It starts with bashing EKU and WKU. They started to blow out Western but took their foot off the gas.

I didn’t mind going for the 1st down but I would have ran to the right side. We were getting 4 or 5 yards every time.

I think it was a bad call and said so in the game thread prior to the decision to do it. Time against wku - pin them deep and make them go the length of the field. The game was never as close as it felt but, wku had some chances after that play - they just choked on them - despite the refs best efforts.

This is where I’m at. We were up 17, I think Coach was probably thinking if we don’t get it no big deal, it would be a good test for the defense. I think Coach knew we had the game in hand. Regardless of his reasoning, the smart play would have been to punt, but I didn’t have a problem with his decision.

It wasn’t a “percentage football” move by Satterfield. I was actually shocked he made that decision.

also, i think being up 17 played a huge part in the decision. that's three scores so even if you fail you've got a buffer. up 16 or less maybe they punt

If we were playing a real team I think Satt would have punted. Getting a win in this game was important, but it’s even more important to continue to set the tone for the program.

i'll play devil's advocate and simply say had they made it the game was over. sometimes you play to win, sometimes to play not to lose. at least give props for coach having faith in his players. and wanting to win the game.
Normally you punt there.

But we’re coming off a super abnormal season with a team who’s confidence was toast.

I believe this was a “we play to win” message to this team.

I’ll bet money if it were a two score game we would have punted.
