4-2 and now not in the top 25

I'm starting to think this team is going to finish 7-5.

My concern is the "what's left to play for" mentality kicks in. This team laid an egg in their two biggest games on the schedule.

Teams have to be licking their chops when they take a look at that defense.

YEP!

What concerns me most is the rest of the ACC is stepping up in FB just as we hit a bad time. We can’t afford to lose any ground in recruiting. They better step up or we could lose to Wake, CUSE, UVA, SuCk, and definitely FSU. Heck even BC has a decent D they could give us fits.

Good. This team doesn't deserve to be ranked. Hopefully this is wake up call.

That means you've been ranked for two straight years while playing in a P5 conference. Hardly a reason for pessimism...

Is there any chance Lamar comes back next year? Man, if he were to come back next year I think we could make a run.

Hardly two years. We made the top 25 in 2015 in the very last poll of the season after beating A&M in the bowl game. Preseason ranked in 2016 and due to the romp over FSU was able to stay ranked for the entire year, despite the horrible ending to the season. And here we are 6 games in the 2017 season dropping out of the top 25.

No chance in hell. The QB spot is not the problem today, nor will it be the problem moving forward. We have QB talent. What we need more than anything is better line play on both sides of the ball and more depth. You don't just get that overnight. That comes from redshirting big linemen and putting them in the weight room for a year before seeing a moment of playing time.

The defense is atrocious, and I honestly believe it's a combination of lack of depth and inept coaching. The DC needs to be fired. Period.

Well the issue is whether LJ gets drafted as a QB or an ATL in the Randall Cobb mold. As a QB, he may not go very high unless his accuracy improves immensely. If we let him be Lamar, then that probably bodes well for teams to take a chance on him. I think it largely depends on LJ? Can he be as good or better as a QB than Watson?

Watson has more touch than LJ at this this time. I'm not sure LJ has shown the scouts anything this year as far as being an NFL QB. So far.

yeah, he looked good against UNC, and got my hopes up big time for Clemson. But now we know UNC is UNC. So that showing proved nothing.

As far as OL, if we can just get "good" OL play, the skill players will automatically be "better". Great OL play and the sky is the limit. See Nebraska and USC1 of the 70's and 80's.
USC was called Tailback U for all the Heisman winners, but nobody talked about all of their OL's who were drafted and played in the league. Those OLs got those Heismans. ;)

In P5 FB, the big uglies are the difference.

We got by in CUSA and NBE with skill players because the competition was not nearly as good, and we were getting some pretty darn good "sleeper" OLs. Plus, we could key on one or two "big" games a year.

But that ship has sailed. We need to get some quality big men.

In another thread last week (?) someone pointed out that the Clemson roster has 4 or 5 more DLs on it than ours, and that we have 3 or 4 more WRs than them.

THAT is the difference.

Great points. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I personally feel Lamar would be better served to be thought of as a ATH instead of a QB for the next level. He just doesn't seem to have the accuracy needed to be a NFL QB, and I question his ability to make reads quick enough to make it as a NFL QB too. Maybe he can but he is such an explosive athlete with his feet that I think it would be an easier transition for him to take the Cobb route to the NFL.

Just my opinion.
