3-2-1 Cal's excuses begin

Bill Self made Cal look foolish tonight. All that talent and blows a 12 point lead in Rupp. Making the final four every year has now become the goal for u k fans. For Cal, having the #1 recruiting class and getting his players to the NBA is top priority. Only thing that matters is the name on the back.

Self won the coaching battle for sure. Great move going zone and mixing it up on defense. KU looked ill prepared at times as well though.

It looked like the first time UK had seen a zone. UK has no defense and no real half-court offense. Willis saved UK from taking a double digit loss tonight.

Willis gave up more on the defensive end than he scored.

Yes and if you take away his (5) 3's (that he has not been making consistently) and they lose by double digits. KU missed several wide open baskets in the 1st half. They also committed silly fouls down the stretch to allow UK to keep it closer than it was. It could have been worse. Cal gets nothing from or very little from Gabriel at the 4 spot. He has a tough decision to make at the 4 spot. Neither one is a great option.

They are good for some highlight reel action, but they look like they could be in trouble if they are forced to play a half court game. They really don't have much size in the rotation right now - they are going with 3 guards, a 3 pt specialist, and a PF for the majority of the game.

It's hard to just count them out with their track record - but this team has no leader in the upper class and they don't have a big man making the game easier for their guards.

In years past they've had a C and a PF that force double teams - this team just doesn't have that sort of threat.
