2024 4 Star Jalen Shelley

Yeah you should it isn’t even April. Let’s see what happens. I doubt you will be happy with whomever he lands so does it even matter?
Well, you would be wrong. I’m not rooting against KP, that would equal rooting against the Cards and I’ve never done that, not planning to start now. I’m very pleased with what he’s done on the recruiting front so far and I’m hoping more is on the way. But, my original point is that I want to see him meeting our immediate needs. WE NEED GUARDS and we need them for this years team. The current NCAAT has shown the importance of guards and KP has yet to produce anything to get overly excited about in this area.

So far KP has shown me 4-28. Getting good players is important but getting them to perform well on his team is quite another. So, please pump your sunshine all you want and question others opinions all you want. All that sunshine pumping still has to overcome 4-28. Until that happens, I’ll keep my healthy dose of skepticism fully in tact.

Where did I say you shouldn’t be skeptical? I only said they have to recruit for 2024 and to relax. Let it play out it is only April.

I am not pumping sunshine either. Never said anything positive or negative just said relax. Fair point on not wanting KP fail poor selection of words on my part.

I'm not upset he is recruiting for the future because he should be doing that.

I know Payne is recruiting certain types of players but how many 6ft7 wings do you really need?

I do find it slightly alarming that he seems to be overlooking true guards that are under 6ft6 but he isn't done with this current class yet hopefully.

I agree. I have no clue if the roster he is building will work. Conceptually I get it.

Length tied with athleticism is a nightmare if they work together. He has said he wants to switch everything on defense their size would allow them to do that.

At that point it becomes can they prevent straight line drives? Same on offense can they breakdown people off the dribble. I am not sure either is possible.

I don’t view Cycle as anything close to a pumper - just someone who is more willing than most to wait and see how next season unfolds. I say this sincerely - maintaining any sense of optimism (albeit with a healthy sense of skepticism) after a 4-28 season is admirable.

Yep. Maybe I misunderstood but what I got from your post was “Relax…Kenny’s got this”. Your optimism and my skepticism maybe be at similar levels. Right now KP has some encouraging recruits in one hand and a 4-28 record in the other. I can be convinced easily to move more toward optimism when I see some wins and something that looks like great basketball on the court. We sure didn’t see any of that last year.

Believe me I have my own concerns. I can’t stand only looking at the negative. I definitely don’t know if he will succeed or fail. What I do know the game is all about spacing either creating or reducing it. The roster he is putting together is high risk-high reward.

Flowers-Davis have both said they can play the 1-2-3. Flowers said he is a guard. Will that work? It could. We saw it with Garcia who was a point forward for Pitino. They basically didn’t have a true PG that year. I am not comparing KP to Pitino just roster.

Now can he find 5 guys long, quick and athletic enough to be good? Don’t know but we are going find out.

Extremely interested in what they do with the last three spots.

If we're pressing, get all the length you want. If you're watching 👀 the tournament, get some dang shooters.
Of course, you've got to run something to get them looks.
UCONN runs the best half court offense I've seen in years. Dan must've gotten in his Dad's playbook.

No doubt. UConn and Creighton run some really good stuff. FAU hasn’t been statistically great offensively how they got here is pretty amazing.

This period just has that deja vu aura about it. Last year many of us kept asking, “Where are the guards”. What we got was Fabio Basili. I like the Skyye get…a lot, but I know that’s no nearly enough. I absolutely do not want to go into the beginning of practice with only one true guard again.

I hear you. But the portal is crazy this year with more transfers than ever before and probably even more so when the tournament is over.

Plenty of chances and options to pick up guards. However if Skyy ends up being the only true guard/PG then it'll be another major fail for Payne. No excuses this year.

What I see in this tournament is a lot of “ballers”; not necessarily McDonald‘s All-Americans. When you see all of these schools playing basketball, and all of the AAU & Club Programs playing year round …… it all adds up to an ever-increasing number of talented kids, not to mention these foreign players coming in with international experience.

As others have already contributed, it takes coaching, and I am afraid we are not going to be successful by just bringing in talented kids; we need a coaching staff that can teach discipline and execution in their practices.

It all starts with the players. Are they hyper competitive? Do they hate to lose? Are they athletic enough? I think last years roster had 2-3 guys that fit the above. They don’t have to be 5 stars but if you find the right 4-5 star players their ceiling is naturally higher. There are a ton guys that can ball this tournament

If they land Churchill Abass he fits everything. Kid from Africa driven to get out and athletic as anyone playing. He isn’t a guard but he is a take.

After watching quite a bit of the NCAAT, I’m more convinced of this than ever. Most of these teams are extremely well coached on both ends of the floor. Maybe it just stands out more in contrast to what we Card fans were forced to endure this past season. I’m totally with you in concern that getting great players will not be enough. Personally, I don’t believe this staff has the coaching chops to get it done.

Have to give you guys credit for being the most realistic board I’ve seen. can’t imagine things can be any worse next year.

Fixed it for ya..
