Rivals put an article up about Justin Shaffer and another OL from his school and apparently they both visited UGA and they were sold on playing together in their home state. Our need for solid OL is pretty great, so I would hate to lose this guy even if it's early in the game. Anybody in the know on this situation? Have we offered his friend?

I couldn't care less. I don't consider ANYONE committed to UofL right now. These stupid football recruits flip so many times that it is irrelevant at this point. When you've got 5 or more of your commits flipping when it is a month or so from signing day than why on earth would anyone get emotionally attached to some guy who commits 12 months out? Our first commit...the guy who commits a year in advance almost always ends up flipping. "I hope we don't lose this guy"...really? I don't even care or want to know his name at this point. I might pay attention to recruiting perhaps next November.

As soon as I heard about this guy committing I wrote him off immediately...assuming he'll end up flipping. Some guy from Georgia staying committed for an entire year with programs coming after him for 12 months? Yeah, sign me up. I'm sure there is an 80% chance he'll go somewhere else.

I believe I read on Twitter that Shaffer has said after his UGA visit that it didn't change his UofL commitment at all. Of course, there is plenty of time to solidify or change one's mind.

Cardinal Cash is correct..."Verbal Commits" are worth the paper the paper they are written on...the only thing a known verbal has done is secured his spot at that particular school under that school coach...all subject to change.

Makes it worth nothing because it is not written on paper.

Plus, who has he visited? The season hasn't even started yet. This last class in February, I was shocked at how many of our commits, who had been committed for months were suddenly taking visits just a week or two from signing day? Why are you even committing if you haven't even take your visits yet? If a guy commits here but hasn't taken all of his visits than I don't even consider him committed. Take all your visits, use them all up THEN commit. Don't commit with no visits then wait until a month from signing day to suddenly visit three other schools. Recruiting is incredibly important but I'm getting to where I don't want to know anything about anyone until signing day. I don't need to know who was committed and flipped or who we almost got but ends up somewhere else. I just want to find out who comes here, then they matter to me. This guy who has committed, he probably hasn't taken any visits yet and I'm sure will visit lots of other schools this fall. Why even waste people's time by committing now.

Hmm, plenty of advice for 16 year olds. I know I followed similar advice when I was young.
:eek::D;)

The best schools pick kids up a year or even 2 years out and they stick and recruit for that class. (See Derwin James and fsu) kid was committed as a sophomore and became the highest ranked safety of all time and had a great freshman season. Just saying our OL recruiting was weak this year and only decent the year before. We need a solid group of Offensive lineman to come in and provide some quality depth.
