I think I have a few differences:
Turner plays NT at least some point this year. I think he gets run there early. That’s the gaping hole in the depth chart in terms of talent.

I think Melton will be in the same spot as Ford, but I really like Christian Pedersen and even Francis Sherman to make some noise as pass catchers. TE is 2 types though. Vic Mullen may get a lot of run in the blocking “in-line TE” roll vacated by pfiefer.

Cannon definitely would back up Justin Marshall rather than Watkins in my book and AHB would back up Smith or Werts. I think Harrell starts over Watkins but they fight for the spot all season.

Our linebackers and DBs make me think we are going to be darn good this year.

I am happy with where our LBs and Secondary are, should be a strength for us.

Your size on the starting O line is better.
The D line may have to get a little exotic with blitz packages.....they are gonna be outsized by a good bit, and while the speed certainly helps compensate, wear and tear may get to the line.

I still see a roster of down linemen that are too small. There are so many teams now days with DL & OL in the 330+ range, that places our 290-310 lb kids at a distinct disadvantage. That difference in size takes its toll in the 4th quarter.

Let us remember that “speed kills”, and that IS our strength along with coaching. Now I’m most certainly not predicting a 11-1 record but our growing talent level makes us competitive with everyone on our schedule except Clemson. I’m still predicting that we will be 7-5 or 8-4.

GO CARDS!!!

I wonder what it's like to be 6-2, 295lbs and be considered small. UofL was similarly sized last season up front, and the defense was nationally ranked 39th. Not bad, all things considered.

CardX : 295 lbs is relative to who you are pushing up against. You assume the 340 Lb is less skilled than those at 295 Lbs? You need look no further than our own Mekhi Becton, who is now at his current weight of 367 lbs. for how effective size can be in college football today.

The 39th ranking in defense is also a relative statistic; aside from a sterling effort against ND; our defense gave up over 40 points on 3 separate occasions and over 30 points on two other occasions. There were times we could not get off the field defensively, and in almost every instance our DL was giving up an average of 20 plus lbs.

I really hope you and GOCDS are correct, and that my concerns with our size is over stated.

290# probably is too small if that is your biggest guy in a "true" 3-4 scheme. FWIW (very little) I think you can get away with that size IF playing a "true" 4-2-5 scheme. LOTs of stunts available in that scheme to compensate for smaller, quicker DLs. By "true" I mean 4 DLs almost every snap (i.e., TCU style). Still probably need a 300# plus size at the DL shading the OC. JMO

Peace

never thought the 3-4 scheme fit our roster: too much reliance on having depth, size and skill at NT. Agree with WC about smaller DL can work more effectively with the 4-3, or 5-2 scheme that TCU runs. UL has had rosters in the past where we could rotate NTs and DEs without so much drop off; just not sure we have that now. I love this LB corp., just like to see 2 or 3 NTs in the 310 - 320 lb range.
