FB RECRUITING: Latest JJ Weaver intel

I have had my prediction on Louisville for Weaver for some time now and I still think him ending up at Louisville is possible if a coaching change is made and dominoes fall a certain way, but at this stage of the game I am changing my prediction to UK. I talked to a source Monday afternoon who told me Weaver is headed to UK and at this point, I'm not sure how much more salt you could metaphorically pour on the wounds of Louisville football fans. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I wanted to keep you all updated.

A thread for all potential new head coaches .... who would you want on the list for consideration?

A thread for ALL possible head coaching candidates, and a little about why they would be a good candidate …

ONE - Jeff Brohm, Purdue. His wife is from Louisville. Enough said.

TWO - Matt Campbell, Iowa State … Has solid experience as head coach. Has taken over a smaller P5 program, in a small state, that doesn’t produce a lot of high school talent (and if it did, has to compete with a flagship school in a arguably bigger conference – sound familiar?) and has made them relevant. Here’s his record as head coach:

Toledo:
2011 1-0 (won bowl game after head coach left)
2012 9-4
2013 7-5
2014 9-4
2015 9-2 (Left for Iowa State before bowl game)

Iowa State:
2016 3-9
2017 8-5
2018 5-3 (4-2 in conference)

51-32 career

THREE - Lance Leipold, Buffalo .... Came to Buffalo from Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he won 6 Division 3 National Championships. Currently in his 4th year at Buffalo. The Bulls are 8-1, and 6-0 in conference.

FOUR - Bill Clark, UAB .... this guy is very intriguing. Was 106-11 at Prattville High School in Alabama. Won back to back state titles. Went to Jacksonville State. Set 49 school records in his only year. Got them to the playoffs. Then went to UAB to rebuild that disbanded program. Went 6-6 in year 1; 8-5 year 2; and currently has them at 7-1 (5-0) right now.

FIVE - Matt Wells, Utah State .... this guy coached here for one year (2009). I don't remember that. Musta been too much tailgating for me that year. He's been head coach at Utah State since 2013. He's got the Aggies at 8-1 this year, and is 42-33 overall there.

SIX - Jeff Tedford, Fresno State ... a guy with mileage. Coached Cal forever. Now turning around Fresno State. 10-4 last year there. This year currently at 7-1 (4-0).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Tedford

SEVEN - Neal Brown, Troy .... we know this dude. A Hal Mumme protégé, played at UK before transferring to UMass. He's put up a very respectable record at Troy, and has knocked off some big time programs as coach there. He's 32-15 overall, and currently has them at 7-2 (5-0).

EIGHT - Seth Litrell, North Texas .... this guy's resume is intriguing too. A little light on the head coaching front, but lots of experience as an assistant (kinda like Jeff Brohm, frankly, if you look at all the coaches Jeff played for). But his roots are pretty deep. Played for Oklahoma for 4 years, and was team captain on Oklahoma's 2000 national champion team. Coached under Mike Leach at Texas Tech, then went to Arizona, Indiana, and North Carolina with Larry Fedora in 2015 when the Heels went 11-3. He then took the head gig at North Texas in 2016, and is in his 3rd year there. Currently has them 7-2, and is following up a 9 win season there last year pretty well.

NINE - Chad Lunsford, Georgia Southern
… promoted from staff to the head coaching gig. Currentlyhas Ga Southern at 7-2 (4-1).

TEN - Rod Carey, Northern Illinois … Currently has NIU at 6-3 (5-0). Following 12-2, 11-3, 8-6, 5-7, 8-5 seasons as HC at NIU.

ELEVEN - Scott Satterfield, Appalachian State … Currently has his team at 6-2 (4-1). Took the program into FBS level, started 4-8, 7-5, 11-2, 10-3, and 9-4.

This doesn’t include coordinators, other P5 head coaches, or potential NFL coaches who may be interested.

Who else would you put on the list?

Two points, long term and short term . . . . .

The two points I’m referring to is for AD Tyra to make a huge commitment to Clemson DC Vennables in the long term as our new head coach. In the short term Malik Cunningham MUST be our starter from here on out. Even though we don’t have much of a chance of winning another game (Syracuse, NCState and uahkay) Cunningham gives us the best possible chance for an upset victory. Pass does not, period. Our defense has quit and I’d give a bunch of young folks an opportunity at some experience. Just thinking about football success down the road as the current staff gives us nothing, period.

GO CARDS - BEAT EVERYBODY!!! God Bless America!!!

UofL D: 115th out of 130 teams

After 9 games, this UofL is 115th out of 130 teams in FBS schools. VanGorder and likely all of the D position coaches have to turn over after this season. And when it breaks down to rushing defense, UofL is...(wait for it)....128th out of 130 teams. Only Bowling Green from the MAC and UConn from the AAC are worse. And that is THE problem on defense. The passing defense is actually pretty good, ranking 23rd in the nation out of 130 teams. So, yes, that is how bad run defense is for UofL. Why even pass at all, when every opposing OC out there knows they can just run right over, through, around, whatever over the defense.

Most of the those runs are clean, meaning that the players are not even in a position to make a play or tackle. And that is 100% on VanGorder, Scott and Beard as coaches. They absolutely have to go.

Ravens coaches are stupid

Watching a bit of the Ravens today against the Steelers and Lamar Jackson is not being utilized correctly.

Why the coaches continue to play Lamar only not to throw makes no sense. Defenses are playing run each time he comes in yet Lamar never passes the ball.

I really thought he would have gotten a real chance at doing something not just some decoy and red zone runner.

FUNNY: Man arrested for hopping on a horse at Churchill

http://www.wdrb.com/story/39412425/...ode-it-to-track-at-churchill-downs-police-say

17808701_G.jpeg

(WDRB) -- Police arrested a man they say was drunk when he jumped onto a horse and rode it to the track entrance at Churchill Downs Saturday evening during the Breeders' Cup.

According to an arrest report, 24-year-old Michael Wells-Rody sneaked into a restricted area of the track, mounted a horse, and rode it out of the tunnel area and into the track entrance.

When he was asked to leave, police say he became loud and disorderly.

He was arrested and taken to Metro Corrections facing charges of alcohol intoxication in a public place and disorderly conduct.

Theory about the enigma of this season.

I think the players have been tanking since the early going (after the first couple of conference losses) in an effort to get rid of the coaching staff. They saw an opportunity when the fans started grumbling and took it. Most of them have another season or 2 to play for exposure and get their shot at the next level so they thought they could get rid of Bobby and save face next year to further their career. I’ve heard from a former player that Bobby openly disrespects his wife and daughter in front of the players, and that he is terrible to deal at with. It makes sense as to why he never stuck around anywhere long. People that work closely with him, players and some coaches, can’t stand him.

Just my attempt at an explanation. I think we are witnessing a player revolt.

Things are really weird this season

Never mind Louisville has out of nowhere become the 2nd worse team in a power 5 conference. Only Rutgers is worse but wouldn't be surprised if they beat the Cards in a toilet bowl.

Bobby Petrino's other power conference employer Arkansas, is also winless in conference play and 2 -7 overall.

Then there's also rans like Virginia, Syracuse and Boston College that are in the top 25.

And last but not least, Kentucky is playing for the SEC east title today and is ranked in the top 10.

As a avid college football fan, I can barely watch any game for more than a quarter. It all just feels crappy. A totally wasted college football season.
