As expected, Russ’ superb summer league stint equaled a guaranteed payday for the Louisville legend as his 2015-16 contract is guaranteed with the Memphis Grizzlies. According to Mark Blankenbaker of thecrunchzone.com, he’ll be paid $845,059.

Christian Dudley, of BealeStreetBears.com, broke it all down for us.

This could easily transition into a bargain contract for the Memphis Grizzlies, especially if the 2015 Orlando Summer League was any indication. The Grizz own a team option on his contract for the 2016-17 season, where Smith would make $980,431 if retained by the team.

Smith appeared in just six regular season games with the Memphis Grizzlies following a midseason trade from the New Orleans Pelicans. He has only played in a total of 12 regular season games.

Although he did not see much floor action in his rookie NBA season, he gained a lot of valuable experience by finishing the year on a contending team and he will be ready to contribute to grit-‘n’-grind basketball when October rolls around

Good for Russ. He certainly is putting in the effort.
