League Notes
ACC division leaders Louisville and Miami tightened their holds on the top spots after winning weekend series. Louisville (21-3 ACC) holds a five-game lead in the Atlantic Division over second place Florida State (16-8) after taking two of three at Clemson. Miami (19-8) holds a four-game lead over second-place North Carolina (13-10) in the Coastal Division after sweeping its three game series with Pitt.
League teams continue to battle for spots and seeding in the upcoming ACC Baseball Championship, which will be held May 19-24 at Durham (N.C.) Bulls Athletic Park. The top 10 teams in the final ACC standings earn spots in the Championship, and the division winners will be the two top seeds.
With two weeks remaining in the regular season, three teams have clinched a spot in the ACC Championship. Louisville and Miami have guaranteed a top six seed and a spot in pool play, while Florida State has clinched a berth in the tournament.
With less than two weeks remaining in the regular season, Wake Forest sophomore Will Craig continues his bid to become the ACC’s first Triple Crown winner since Florida State’s Buster Posey in 2008. Craig leads the conference in hitting with a .404 average, and holds narrow leads in the power categories with 13 home runs and 58 RBIs. Craig ranks ninth nationally in batting and fourth in runs batted in.
The ACC continues to rank second among all conferences in collective RPI, with two league teams (Miami, Florida State) ranked among the top seven and six ranking among the top 40. Louisville is ranked as high as No. 2 in this week’s major polls, with Florida State and Miami also earning top 10 rankings.
